spartan123
Yeah, so in BTB everyone chooses either Ragnarok, Exile, or Solace. The other playlists aren't as bad, but I still think the map variety is absolutely terrible. Its like 343 tried to focus on making large, asymmetrical maps that encourage DMR camping and rushing. They need to focus on smaller, more compact maps that encourage different weapons to be used, not one size fits all maps where everyone uses the DMR and nothing else. Also, none of the maps are interesting at all. Halo CE had Gyrophobia. Halo 2 had Relic and Turf. Halo 3 had sandtrap and sandbox. Halo reach had forged maps and countdown. Halo 4 has no cool maps with interesting settings. So I made my own: Titan – The moon Titan has been home to renegades for several centuries… Core – Only one Spartan is known to have destroyed a Covenant Carrier from the inside out… Dreadnaught – Vessel 0253 is one of several recent ONI finds unearthed on this foreboding world… Runoff– The Jiralhanae of Ontom thought they could hide here after the civil war ended… Death Valley – Death looms over this green valley like a storm cloud… Glasslands – This sand is all that remains of the three billion colonists who perished here more than a decade ago… Sharpened Shield – ONIRF Trevelyan, also known as the ‘Sharpened Shield,’ is one of Division Three’s most closely kept secrets… Graveyard– After finding this Library abandoned more than three millennia ago, the Sangheili chose to avoid it as a place of evil, tenanted by ghosts and demons… Oblivion – Halcyon-class warships aren’t rated for outrunning pirate vessels… *Titan – Explore this rebel outpost floating in the skies above the surface of the moon Titan. It combines Lockout, Gephyrophobia and Narrows. It is essentially a twenty-four mile-long three-level bridge hanging between two distant mountain ranges, used as a highway by the rebel faction on the planet. This map is much larger than Gephyrophobia and does not feature a junction in the main bridge platform. Rather, like Narrows, it runs in a strait line and possesses multiple decks. *Core – Explore the cavernous chamber housing the fusion reactor of a Covenant Carrier during the Battle of Beta Halo. Because of a distant hole in the wall, the atmosphere of a nearby planet can be seen. This explains why there is micro-gravity throughout the map. It uses traits from Assembly, including a massive interior housing chamber and a central pylon around which the map is anchored, although the fusion reactor is fifty times the size of the gravity beam from the Halo 3 map. This map is entirely symmetrical, a vast hexagonal platform floating within the housing chamber centered on the fusion reactor. Two hornets can be found on the ledge of the platform, along with two ghosts, two mongooses, a scorpion tank, and a phantom dropship. Meanwhile, three banshees will spawn at the entrance to the central fusion reactor, along with two wraiths, a Cyclops, a specter, and a pelican dropship. *Dreadnaught – Play on the central platform joining the legs of the Forerunner dreadnaught once occupied by the Prophet of Truth. Players can actually speed down the legs of the ship in vehicles and reach teleporters at the bottom, which will cycle them back to the top. The ship itself appears to be landed on an ocean world, as its legs are partially submerged beneath the water’s surface. This map is pyramidal in shape, with each leg protruding from one of the three sides. Two scorpion tanks can be found near the edges of the legs, along with two wraiths, two ghosts, four mongooses, a rocket warthog, a specter, and a mantis. *Runoff – Journey into the depths of this immense canyon on Sanghelios. The gorge appears to be three miles beneath the surface of the planet and roughly seventy feet wide at its broadest point; light from above barely reaches the ravine’s floor. Jungle vines and plants drape the sides of this narrow canyon. The thin layer of ground humus is briefly broken by pools of rainwater, which are deep enough to prevent players from exploring beyond the map. This map is roughly linear in design, resembling a meandering line when seen from above. *Death Valley – Play throughout this green gorge on Beta Halo. It is a remake of Ragnarok from Halo 4. The only difference is that the weather patterns above the map are stormier in appearance. Two Locust walkers will spawn at either base, along with a banshee, a wraith, two warthogs, two mongooses, two ghosts, two mantises, and two Cyclopes. This is vehicular warfare to the max. *Glasslands – Visit the wastes of the human city New Wales on the planet New Llanelli. It is a remake of Sandtrap. The Forerunner stone structures are now replaced by human buildings made of steel and glass materials. It also includes an additional area outside the encircling wall similar to Last Resort, influenced by the original map layout produced by Bungie. A UNSC Frigate is landed outside the wall. Along with two elephants standard to Sandtrap, one mammoth will also spawn in the central depression between the two towers. Four mongooses and two warthogs will spawn within the cargo bay of the mammoth. A hawk will also spawn on the top of the mammoth. A rocket warthog and scorpion tank can be found in the crashed albatross, while a banshee can be found near the downed phantom dropship. Two Brute choppers and a fourth warthog lie near the far tower, while two ghosts and a wraith are parked near the opposite tower. *Sharpened Shield – Take a walk along ONI Research Facility Trevelyan in Forerunner Shield World 006. It is a remake of Last Resort, being essentially the same map as its Halo 3 predecessor, except that a Leopard now spawns on the beachhead. *Graveyard – Fight throughout the containment facility surrounding the steps of the Library on Installation 02. It is a remake of Hemorrhage from Halo Reach, except that the snow and ice is now replaced by sand and rust. The atmosphere surrounding the map is clouded with fog and sandstorms; a shrill wind can be heard, the culprit for the lack of vegetation. Beta Library is also positioned between the two anti-gravity Gondola docks abutting the Library’s abysmal moat. Where the beach used to be in the Halo Reach variant, a gaping black chasm now exists, separating the quarantine zone from the Library proper. There are two banshees on either side of the map, along with two ghosts, two warthogs, two Cyclopes, two specters, two revenants, two wraiths, and four mongooses. Oblivion – Repel the enemy boarders attempting to hijack your ship. This map is a remake of Boarding Action. The only difference is that one of the ships is a Covenant vessel, and the other is a human vessel. Both have suffered damage to their sides, revealing a series of decks that players can now fight on. Both ships appear to be traveling through slipspace.
тυcкєя
I do not find it a big problem to have all of the maps be good for DMR use because, I use that gun all of the time. But, sometimes I like to use other guns as well. Another thing, I think it's stupid that the maps are so big. Literally you have to run a mile just to get the other enemies. I wish they had more of a variety. It seems that all of the maps are the same. The only real thing different about them is that their names are different, scenery and how the map's set up. If you look at the maps the way I do you will get what I mean. I have only seen what maybe 2 maps that have a different set up. Some of the maps bore me to death. But, others I just really love to play. I find Abandon to be an interest because, it's just so different from other maps. Most of your ideas are amazing.
spartan123
Thanks. I appreciate that you agree with me about lack of map variety. What Bungie did so well was making maps that cater to specific individualized playing styles; for example, in Halo 3, the Pit was close quarters for assault rifles and plasma rifles, Valhalla was long range for Battle Rifles and Plasma Carbines, and so on. I designed maps that are unique and require different weapons to be used in them. As you can see, most of them are symmetrical and balanced; that is what I think 343 should aim for in their next halo title multiplayer. A6ENT of CHA0S
So... some of your ideas are a bit outlandish, such as having 2 Elephants and a Mammoth on a Sandtrap "remake". They all seem to have potential, but there are a lot of things to consider when making a map. About half of your ideas are remakes of maps that already exist, and many of the others don't seem to have the kind of capacity for the kind of armaments you're suggesting. You want maps to be small, as you say in your first comment, and that's why many of 343i's maps suck? Yet in the same post, you share the ideas of Locusts, Mantises, Warthogs, Mongooses, Ghosts, Banshees, and Cyclops all on the same map? Not to mention the map concept "Core" with 2 Hornets, a Scorpion, 2 Wraiths, 3 Banshees, a Pelican, and a Phantom Dropship.... I'm not saying these are bad ideas, but you basically talked about huge maps after complaining about the large ones in Halo 4, arguing that they were too big. Yeah, so in BTB everyone chooses either Ragnarok, Exile, or Solace. The other playlists aren't as bad, but I still think the map variety is absolutely terrible. I'm not saying these are bad ideas, but you basically talked about huge maps after complaining about the large ones in Halo 4, arguing that they were too big. Yeah I think I went overboard with the vehicles. In terms of size, the large maps are Dreadnaught, Glasslands, Death Valley, and Graveyard. Oblivion, Sharpened Shield, Runoff, Core and Titan are small maps. I think I put too many vehicles in them despite them being small maps. In terms of 343 making maps that are too large and lack symmetry, it is true that they do; however, another problem that I forgot to mention is that they don't have many remakes besides Ragnarok. That is what I sought to accomplish with all of the maps except for Runoff, Dreadnaught, Core and Titan.
A6ENT of CHA0S
Don't forget that many of the franchise's best multiplayer maps were asymmetrical, such as Hang em' High. Also, keep in mind that many maps in Halo don't have any vehicles and yet are known for being some of the best, competitively speaking. Examples include The Pit, Lockout/Blackout, and again Hang em' High. Don't get me wrong. Vehicles are great, but shouldn't be present on every map. Oh, and can't forget the asymmetrical infantry glories of Guardian...
I<3Grunts
Smaller maps for slayer, Larger maps for BTB, and Ultra Large maps for Ultra Slayer.
VinWarrior
I am actually quite fond of Ragnarok the way it is. I fell like the maps have no differentiation except Ragnarok because of it's size. It is my favorite map to play on and it is larger then the Forge maps, and it is loads of fun. Your maps seem fun, but too many remakes, I mean I was happy that Ragnarok was back and all, but I wanted like one or two more not like the 5 that you have here. Anyway, good job.
