Choosing a Next Gen Console

Honestly, here is my point.

When you say I am buying -insert console name- for Call of Duty, Battlefield 4, Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, or Destiny (maybe even Tomb Raider)...  your approach is not that great (if I am being honest).

All these high profile, popular games are cross-platform (meaning they will be released for Xbox One, Playstation 4, Wii-U*, PC). So basing your decision off of those games is a terrible idea. You need to consider the exclusives to that system/franchise.

Are you buying that gaming console because you don't like what another company is doing?

Are you buying a certain gaming console because you don't like the other features on the other gaming console?

If you like all of those games listed above and want to play them on the next gen consoles, BUT you also are eyeing newer games that are exclusives... consider which console you are buying. The games listed above do not matter at this point.

What I am saying, is forget about what console you are going to play the cross platform games on, and consider which exclusive games you really want to play, who has the stronger line up, who has the better outlook

If you do not like the other features, here is a simple solution: DON'T USE THEM!

You are not being forced to use the other features that are available, they are there for you to use if you want to.

My point is this:

Don't buy a game console based on what the cross platform games are going to be, but what the exclusives will be and what the outlook of games will look like on that console. THEN add in the console features, and the cross-platform games.

Personal opinion:

I personally will be buying the Xbox One. Why? It has all the extra features, yes.... but it still focused on gaming. They expanded the servers for online gaming, and enhanced Xbox Live. Throw in Halo, Ryse, Titanfall, and the other exclusives and the gaming system looks very appealing (Gears of War also is likely to have another title). I know Microsoft had their issues at first, but they have already begun fixing certain problems.

PS4 has very solid hardware and software... but so does Xbox One.

PS4 has Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, Destiny, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4... but so does  Xbox One.

Xbox One games I am looking at:

Assassins Creed IV

Battlefield 4

Halo (5 etc) - exclusive

Destiny

Ryse: Son of Rome (I think is the name) - exclusive

Titanfall - exclusive

Forza 5 - exclusive

Quantum Break - exclusive

Project Spark

The Crew

Personally, I am getting the PS4. Both consoles pretty much have the same Specs, but in my opinion, PS4 has the better exclusive games.

PS4:

  • Daylight
  • DC Universe Online
  • Deep Down
  • Don’t Starve
  • DriveClub
  • Final Fantasy XIV
  • Galak-Z
  • Infamous: Second Son
  • Killzone: Shadow Fall
  • Knack
  • Mercenary Kings
  • Octodad: Deadliest Catch
  • Outlast
  • The Order 1866
  • PlanetSide 2
  • Ray‘s The Dead
  • Secret Ponchos
  • The Witness
  • Transistor

Xbox One:

  • Forza 5
  • Halo 5
  • Killer Instinct
  • Minecraft One
  • Crimson Dragon
  • Dead Rising 3
  • Sunset Overdrive
  • Quantum Break
  • Ryse
  • Titanfall
  • D4

The PS4 is $100 cheaper. One big reason is that the PS4′s attachable camera, a rough equivalent to Xbox’s Kinect, is sold separately for $60. I’d prefer to have the choice and save the money.

Microsoft is justifying the $499 price tag of the Xbox One by flagging the inclusion of Kinect as standard, while Sony is sticking to offering the PlayStation Eye as an extra peripheral (priced at $59). I’d argue that most gamers have no interest in motion-control, so cramming it down people’s throats is actually a bad thing. This difference in approach also suggests the PS4 is the console of choice for core gamers, with the Xbox One clearly embracing the casual crowd.

I really don't want a new Halo. I want something different. Something new. Games like Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Infamous are all great games. I can play Titanfall on my PC.

Microsoft only changed some of their problems because they saw what Sony was doing and how they were dominating them in pre-order charts.

PS+ seems more reliable and has a lot of better features than Xbox Live, imo.

I can also use the extra $100 I'm not using on the Xbox One for a new game and/or controller.

All I saw at E3 for Microsoft was "TV TV TV SPORTS SPORTS TV, and... Call of Duty: Ghosts."

These are all just my OPINIONS. I love Halo, and I play that 93% of the time on my 360. But I mean, come on. Its not the Halo I grew up with anymore. Halo 5 looks promising, but so do a lot of the other Exclusive games on PS4.

You have some good points, and i may buy an Xbox One when Halo 5 comes out, but PS4 is my choice for now.

Very solid advice Mayh3m! Another pitch to consider is price. If the expense isn"t an issue then choose for exclusives. or consider two less games for the Xbox One.

At this point and time, I'm leaning towards the PS4. My reasons are...

  • Costs $100 less per console (I purchase 3 consoles minimum to accommodate the kids. One for personal use, boy's room, girl's room)
  • $100 savings leads to two additional titles per console.
  • Exclusives...
    • inFamous: Second Son
    • The Order: 1886
    • Killzone: Shadowfall
    • Octodad (just looks hilarious, lol)
    • Destiny (exclusive PS4 content)

Now this is just MY personal opinion that reflects titles most appealing to me at this time. Add the fact that I have NO desire whatsoever of owning the Kinect. If MS would offer a package that didn't have the Kinect and Halo: Xbox One turns out to be a successful title then it would be a much harder decision. I haven't pre-ordered a next-gen console yet as I plan on waiting until after release to let the bugs get worked out (I'm sure there will be a few, lol) and continue using my 360 for cross-platform titles.

Thanks Mayh3m!

You know, the Xbox One may have Halo. But I'm not going to base my decision over one gaming Franchise, for me Halo kind of ended at Halo 3,( the story at least). I kind of wish I bought a PS3 before the next gen consoles were announced, because PS+ is amazing, offers free games constantly. Xbox Live may have better service, and party chat. But who's to say they can't add that on PS4? (They did) The Xbox One recently made VERY late hardware and software updates, if they can make HARDWARE changes less than a couple of months away from release, why don't they just get rid of DRM entirely? The fact that you still have to have the update when you set it up means it's still there. If you don't get the update, your console's just a brick.  Xbox may have one the GAMES, but PS4 won the GAMERS.  Besides, I think it's time to switch up on consoles..it's been over half a decade.

I am getting the ps4 because

cheaper price

cheaper the Xbox live

no Kinect bundled inside

planetside 2 coming to it

they didn't try to shove drm down out throats

excusive destiny content

excursive assassins creed content

that's all I can think of as of right now but getting a ps4 means no more halo but it is a necessary sacrifice I think anyway destiny is coming out soon enough

I've always had a open gaming relationship. I never just use one console exclusively. I use my PC to play Runescape, GBA/NDS emulators, and games with great graphics. I use my old consoles like my N64, PS2, and original Xbox to play all of my favorite older games. And I use a Xbox 360 now but that's just mainly to finish watching all the episodes and seasons of "The Wire" with my brother. We just started season 3.  We use Pirate Bay to download all the seasons in HD for free and then stream them through Vuze on my PC to the Xbox 360. Plus not to mention, Hulu Plus and Netflix is how we see other shows that we don't wanna have to download. And for my gaming needs the Xbox is the only console so far (Not counting handheld) that has any games that peak my interest. So, so far the Xbox can satisfy me.

Now when it comes to next-gen. I will be getting both. As I did with the PS2 and Xbox. But not the PS3 and Xbox 360. I will wait until each console builds its game library and redesigns the console (Like PS3 and Xbox 360 Slim). The longer I wait the better the technology gets. The better my first experience will be...

This will haunt them forever...

Even when it won't matter farther down the road, people will always remember when Microsoft tried to screw them over, and it will cause so many decisions to turn the other way...

But that's just the way it goes.

Depends whether or not you are sick of shooters yet. If you are a hardcore gamer looking for some great RPG's and a strong 3rd-party backing get a PS4. If you are not tired of shooters yet and are fueled on pure testosterone and only watch manly man movies with lots of action and want shooters and nothing else, then get the Shooter Box One.
