The first Halo game on Xbox One has been subject to a number of leaks over the weekend, including what seem to be the first story details.

Although Microsoft did unveil a Halo-related teaser trailer at E3 in June they never said what the game was, although at the time Xbox boss Phil Spencer implied it wasn't Halo 5.

A new version of the trailer released by ad company Axis Animation suggests otherwise though, with the number five clearly positioned as part of the main title. And it’s not as if that could’ve just been a slip of the keyboard because someone had to go away and design the digit in the usual Halo typeface.

That doesn't mean being a numbered sequel isn't an idea that was subsequently abandoned, but the original post has quickly been redacted on the company’s Facebook page.

As for the story details the following description briefly appeared on the Microsoft Store on Friday night, before quickly being taken down:

Halo for Xbox One takes the now-legendary saga to new heights and is one of the most anticipated games for the new console. In possession of a mysterious data chip, Petty Officer John-117, aka Master Chief, confronts a new battery of challenges and tests in a Herculean effort to stay alive in a galaxy where sentient life is mercilessly hunted. Pre-order the next chapter in the wildly popular Halo series designed exclusively for Xbox One.

We’re not sure it gives much away, but the talk of wiping out sentient life does perhaps imply a role for The Flood.

The listing gave a release date for the game as December 31, 2014 – which is obviously a placeholder but could be accurate in terms of the year at least.

Officially the only thing we know about the next Halo game is that it’s an Xbox One exclusive, it will run at 60 frames per second, and that it will make use of cloud computing in some undefined way.

Beyond that the only other thing Microsoft has said is that the ‘Reclaimer Trilogy’ that began with Halo 4 is no longer merely a trilogy, and will likely run longer than three games.

I said the same things as you in my article, but Microsoft denied the leaks, they said neither they or 343i made them, so they are fake. It was a good try, but, they swatted us right back where we started. An Image, a Man, and a Giant Metal Bird.

Good one. I was looking for a thread like this in the announcements area, but found none.

I shall request this thread be locked. :)
