Former Warner Bros. executive joins Activision Blizzard board of directors

Longtime Warner Bros. Entertainment executive Barry Meyer, who previously served as chairman and CEO of the Batman and Harry Potter media giant, has joined Activision Blizzard's board of directors. The Call of Duty and World of Warcraft publisher announced the news this week through an SEC filing.

 

Meyer, who retired as chairman of Warner Bros. Entertainment at the end of 2013 after more than 40 years with the company, becomes the eighth member of Activision Blizzard's board of directors. He also serves on the board of directors for the Museum of Television & Radio and the Human Rights Watch.

 

The 69-year-old Meyer has been appointed to the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee of the Activision Blizzard board of directors. He will earn a base retainer of $90,000 per year, and an extra $5,500 for his duties on the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.

 

In addition to the cash compensation, Meyer gets the option to receive Activision Blizzard common stock. Meyer has a bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester and a law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

 

Under Meyer's guidance, the Warner Bros. Pictures Group in 2012 grossed $4.3 billion at the worldwide box office, with its domestic and international divisions reaching $1 billion for the 12th straight year.

 

Activision Blizzard also announced this month that COO Thomas Tippl has signed an extended contract that will pay him $1.25 million per year.
