Games You Love That Were Overlooked By Everyone

Salutations everyone! As the title says, post games you like that went unnoticed by many. This way, we can share games that most people don't know with each other.

NOTE: Do not put indie games here. They're all overlooked. I'll be making a separate topic for indie games just like this one once this one dies out. For now, keep this topic for overlooked AA - or AAA games only.

Here's my top 5 list (in order of how much I enjoyed them from favorite to least favorite)

5. Mirror's Edge (Metascore: 79)

Well, by now, the game has reached 2 million sales, but it took years to reach that number. Mirror's Edge is definitely overlooked. The atmosphere this game has is really unique. The story was panned by critics, but I actually liked it. Well, at least the concept behind it. This is because the story is so incredibly short and the plot twists were predictable and it ended too suddenly. As for the gameplay, critics complained about the controls being bad, however, I really had no problem at all with the controls. They were really comfortable to use. The game is especially great now that we have Oculus Rift coming in, it's like it was made for it.

4. Vanquish (Metascore: 84)

Granted, the story isn't very memorable and the dialogue is cringe-inducing, but that doesn't matter. It's the gameplay that does. Vanquish does something very special with its gameplay by making things extremely over the top. The whole thing is a hectic experience and I say that in a good way. Somehow, you still have full awareness of the environment. The whole thing is very unbelievable, which leads to the fun in this game. Not to mention the graphics look very good. This game comes from Platinum Games, who later made Metal Gear Rising, another fun over-the top game in a similar style.

3. Alan Wake (Metascore: 83)

Despite the high reviews, Alan Wake is an almost unknown game that many people forget. The story was incredible with a huge sense of mystery and loneliness. It's not a horror game - it's a thriller. This is one important thing people who say "it's not scary" don't understand, because it's not supposed to be. The characters are very likable and the voice acting is well done. Not to mention the music is amazing. The graphics are among the best I've seen on the Xbox 360.

2. Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth (Metascore: 78)

The Ace Attorney games are all overlooked by many, but they still get enough attention to be profitable and I hear the series mentioned many times. The series is quite popular among DS owners/anime fans. However, none of the games are as overlooked as this one. This is mainly due to the fact that the game does not star series mainstay Phoenix Wright, but rather Miles Edgeworth, Phoenix Wright's rival who is a very stoic character in the series and hardly shows emotion. However, Ace Attorney Investigations works very well by staying true to Edgeworth's character whilst injecting the Ace Attorney feel of combining a well written storyline, charming characters, surprising plot twists, logic puzzles and comedy.

1. Crimson Skies High Road To Revenge (Metascore: 88)

Crimson Skies was one incredible game in my opinion that no one even noticed. Reviews for the game were high, but despite that, the game still failed in terms of sales. This alternate reality '40s airplane flying game had incredible music, visuals and gameplay. The universe was very unique and had a great atmosphere surrounding it. Not to mention the voice acting and story were really good. For its time, the levels are really huge. This was one extremely overlooked Xbox exclusive that no one remembers. The characters are also very likable. Before Nathan Drake, there was Nathan Zachary. Crimson Skies feels like Indiana Jones put into the air with twelve unique over the top 40's-esque airplanes.

Honorable mention:

Aside from those games above, I'd like to mention Halo Wars and Halo 3 ODST. The thing is, they did indeed get high sales, so they weren't exactly overlooked. But among Halo fans, they definitely are. These two games are masterpieces and they aren't "rubbish" as many Halo fans I've noticed like to believe. These two were incredible games that deserve to be played.

This is an interesting list, as two out of these five I never personally heard of. I'll have to check them out thanks to you. I never considered Mirror's Edge overlooked to be honest, it wasn't a triple A title, but it got good sale, and is widely played.

For me, the number one has to be Spore. I loved that game with all my heart and everyone else went "Meh" and threw it out, I dunno, I liked it personally, so, it doesn't matter.

Ah, yes, Spore. I loved that game. I was under the assumption it was a successful game, though, seeing it's made by "The Sims" creator... Seems like I was wrong. The numbers aren't that huge, but I thought it was very successful, since I recall EA describing it as a hit... Personally, I thought Mirror's Edge was an overlooked game since I recall EA commenting on disappointing sales...Well, it's just a misconception I had of thinking Mirror's Edge more overlooked than Spore.

So, I assume those "two out of five" games you've never heard of are Crimson Skies and Ace Attorney Investigations? Those two really aren't very well known.

There are several games I'd like to include in this list, but chose not to. Not quite sure if "Rayman Origins" is overlooked or not. I like that one, too but it's not here, because I'm unsure whether it's overlooked or not.

No actually, haha, the two were Ace Attorney and Vanquish, I've seen Crimson Skies before in Let's Plays.

Consider what a 'hit' really is today, I mean, looking back then, maybe that was good, but Halo 3 made nearly 38 TIMES the amount Spore made, even if EA trots about like it was a 'true' success, it really wasn't. Besides, it wasn't what we were promised anyways. I enjoyed it, but the 2005-6 demos were a mile better.

Rayman Origins I wouldn't include as it sold enough to get a sequel on all the platforms, so, it's doing pretty good.

Ah, the Japanese games... Keep in mind that Ace Attorney is a DS game. It was ported to iOS, though, but that was a bad port, in my opinion. I could list more DS games (Another Code, Ghost Trick, Hotel Dusk Room 215) but I didn't want to overload the list with DS games...

Both Spore and Mirror's Edge were released in 2008, hence why I assumed EA were judging both games on the same standard... But they are in different genres, though...So that might be why EA judged the two differently. Thank you for mentioning the Spore 2005 and 2006 demos, as this is the first I've heard of them. It really does look better back then.

Mirrors edge woot! That was the one game I ever 'got' and played in the US (Borrowed it from a library). Cant wait for ME2.

Games I like that were overlooked? Hmmm......Urban Terror. That's like, the traditional shooter of my school, passed down generation by generation.

Not necessarily overlook, but I also like Call of Duty and everybody else here seems to be like lol haha cod bk silly silly game.

You reminded me of how awesome Mirrors Edge was... But then I remembered how terrible I was at it... Then I found this...

Now I feel sad... It took me three times longer just to beat the first three missions, let alone the entire game.  :(

The Mirrors Edge sequel is going to be gorgeous!

Judging from the trailer, it's really going to be a very good game. Especially how they claim it's open world.

Urban Terror? Well, I played it for a while back in the day and liked it. Didn't play it intensively.
Don't mention MW3 to me and we're good. I thought MW3 was terrible. Black Ops 2? Ehhh just okay. Zombies was fun and that's all. Ghosts? Mediocre. Anything before MW3 was really good. After that, the series felt boring and uninspired.

The DeathSpank series is awesome but bairly anybody knows about it. Also I really loved Dishonored.

Oh and the Spellforce series of games were great RTS/RPG games.

Dishonored was overlooked? Since when? I thought it was very successful actually.

I'll have a look at DeathSpank and Spellforce.

the Golden Sun Series for the game boy advance and DS, those games were so good, yet not many people know about them, which is a shame because they some of the best JRPGs imo

I'll have a look at that. Seems interesting.

Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks

And here I thought this game was a fighting game only to find out it's actually an action adventure. I'll check it out.

For me?

Mirrors Edge - Xbox 360.  When I first heard about Mirror's Edge, I'd been spending my time watching parkour videos on youtube, and I was really excited. When I got it, I ran through it in about 2 days (After a period of trying to learn the controls well enough to play it) and to this day, I still enjoy it.

Project: Snowblind - Multiple systems.  Most people don't know this game exists, and honestly, it was a small release from Eidos and Crystal Dynamics, and went relatively un-noticed, save for the fact that many people thought of it as a Non-RPG Deus Ex. But, I still like to lace up Lt. Nathan Frost's boots every now and then, and give it a good run through.

Sony Playstation All-stars Battle Royal - PS3 most people heard about this game. Most people dismissed it as a Super Smash Brothers ripoff. Maybe so, even I did at first. But having finally played it, I really like it. all of the characters have a unique play style (Although some are broken, some suck, and some DON'T BELONG THERE. I'M LOOKING AT YOU FAT PRINCESS.) and there is enough customization to make you pop it in from time to time, alone or with friends. Not to mention, it was Sir Daniel Fortesque's (Medievil) first appearance since 2006, Sly Cooper's first new game in about the same amount of time, and the first time I'd seen Parappa the Rappa in a long time. Although, the game always spawns the same discussion when I play it with my friends. WHERE IS CRASH AND SPYRO?

Alpha Protocol - I think it's on both 360 and PS3... o_O.  I used to talk a lot of trash about this game, but I recently realize how much I like it, and why I was so furious at it. When it was announced, it sounded awesome. I was really excited to play it. I wanted to be so good. I was let down. for what it was, it wasn't bad. but for what was promised? it sucks.

Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door. One of the greatest games I've ever played in my life.

Gotcha Force. Hands down one of the greatest games ever created for Gamecube. Yes there's an American version.

Stuntman. Great fun to do the actions when you're told to and great music.

Great work! Lists with actual YouTube videos on them. I always appreciate the effort.

For me?

Mirrors Edge

Project: Snowblind

Sony Playstation All-stars Battle Royal

Alpha Protocol

Project: Snowblind looks fun. I'll have to check it out sometime I overlooked PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale myself. It really is very similar to Super Smash Bros. I've tried out Alpha Protocol already and thought it was decent fun.

Paper Mario? Well, I guess it is overlooked...I only play the Mario platformers, so I overlooked it myself. Gotcha Force looks interesting. Seems similar to vehicular combat games for the PS1. Stuntman looks fun, but "Next Car Game", coming soon, seems to blow it out of the water thanks to new technology. But I'll check out all the games you listed.

as far as overlooked? I believe that Gotham City Imposters would fit in that catagory

reason being is the fact that most people see the cover and/or what its about and they misjudge it

Even I overlooked that game. It doesn't exactly have the best trailer in the world. I looked at the trailer back when it was new and wondered why it was so loosely based on Batman. I looked at the gameplay and thought that it looked fun. But I still haven't tried it out yet.

For PC, I swear no one I have ever asked has known about this game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjofUax2Y-Q

It was my favorite game as a kid, and quite unique in conceptions, as it was a fully functional game, which had graphics and animations made from clay.... A claymation video game! So original! :D

And had great soundtrack, story, puzzles, and just a heap of fun to play....

So you guys need to check it out! ^_^

And no spoilers, you need to play it yourself to fully experience it.

Interesting game. I'd say the level of creativity is near to that of Grim Fandango. I guess I can only appreciate it if I play it myself. One of those amazing creative games, I suppose.

I think nobody appreciates the masterpiece that is the original halo anymore

You know, I really doubt that. Halo CE isn't overlooked. Especially since Halo Anniversary came out recently. But, well, that's your opinion. So your standards of an overlooked game.

Dishonored was overlooked? Since when? I thought it was very successful actually.

I'll have a look at DeathSpank and Spellforce.

I mentioned Dishonored because I feel it should have been treated as a AAA title. That and the majority of people I know and talk to have never played it. I can only speak from my own experiences you know :P

As for DeathSpank you can find that on the arcade. It is awesome. Its co-op is limited but still amusing. The best part about it is the dialog. It is just plain old funny. Even watching the trailers for the games (http://www.deathspank.com/) you get a kick out of the dialog.

Spellforce on the other hand is for the PC only. It is a fantastic blend of RTS and RPG with a great story behind it. With a large variety of units, races and items to deal with you can spend hours going through it. The expansion packs are wonderful additions as well. If you play through the first game and its expansions you really get a feel for what happens in the second game. While they tone down the amount of units in the second game they make up for it with their versatility and character development.

I agree. When I talk about Dishonored, every one of them asks "What's Dishonored?" But on the internet, quite a lot of people know it. So it does have attention.

DeathSpank seems to have a creative art design and Spellforce looks interesting. I'll have to try them out myself.

Same. I also have Halo Custom Edition and still play the many maps people still make for it.
