So apparently NASA has created a new project, in order to make Mars a habitable place for humans! The Project is called the "Mars One" project, and it is the first mission to ever send a human being to Mars!

Here is the Official Project Site - http://www.mars-one.com/

VICE also did an Interview with the man in charge of the project in order to pick his brain and find out what he hopes to accomplish with this mission! In summary he say that he wants to finally solve the age old question... Is there Life on Mars? Which in turn would answer the question if there is life in space! Thus opening the doors for the possibility of extraterrestrials! He also plans to start a Martian Society! He said this... "We want to establish a small self-supporting society on Mars that doesn't need Earth anymore"!

Here is a link to the Article which contains the Interview if you are interested - http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/im-sending-four-people-to-mars-for-the-rest-of-their-lives

This is an amazing era we live in! We all get to witness the first colonization of a planet in human history! This is awesome! We are now the aliens invading another planet! We are the martian takeover!

My Question is..

Would you volunteer your life and purchase a one-way ticket to Mars? Are you excited for what the future of space travel holds? What do you think the most beneficial thing about this mission will be once it begins? What would be the biggest breakthrough to happen? What could be the worst thing to possibly happen during this mission? What will we learn from living on Mars? What will this mean for the future of the Human Race? And, do you think we will find life on Mars?

Let me know what you all think! This is History in the making, and we get to all be a part of it!  :)

Mars One?

Hahaha what is this

There's gonna be DRM there, the possibility of no-disc drive, and it's gonna cost a lot despite the fact that you're making a heavy sacrifice

xD

This would be cool, but a lot of money would be needed. Continuous supplies of food need to exist, oxygen needs to be transported, and then filters that would change the atmosphere to be habitable, energy generators, so much more.

Would be cool, but I've never envisioned it happening within such a close time frame.

No, I wouldn't choose to go, I am excited for what space travel brings (And, lets face it, we're probably not gonna be suddenly in a war against supremely inhuman looking lifeforms who have super advanced weaponry), the most beneficial thing about this project would be a push in technology, which would thus give us 1. Information on terraforming mars 2. Change economy to pretty much encourage science, 3. cool stuff. The worst thing to happen would be the team there fails to set up their equipment properly and dies, we learn nothing, wasted money, and a bunch of angry arrogant ignorant people who are nowhere as brave as those who went to mars get mad and sad that money isn't being spent on making them happy. If we lived on mars, we'd learn that we could live on mars. For the human race, this would be revolutionary, especially since the tech that helps people survive on mars could be used to help clean up all the stuff that needs cleaning on earth.

Also, we'll probably find bacteria, virus' and single celled lifeforms on mars, (and maybe cockroaches) but I doubt that there'd be life on the level of the biology on earth.

Lol yeah, and the whole thing is controlled by a Kinect!  Microsoft is gonna so want in on this, haha!

Yeah. Lets just hope they don't exceed budget. But then again everybody owes everybody now a-days, and debt is everywhere so whats one more debt? :)

I know right?!   :smiling:

Good points! Hopefully NASA pre-planned for worst case scenario and started investing money and time, long ago to save up for this monumental feat. I mean humanity has a lot riding on this, especially if we ever want to get to where science fiction portrays us being in the next century.  Centuries from now when we have hotels and casinos on Mars and the Moon, we will all look back on this moment and say, "Wow imagine being alive back when the first human landed and touched foot on Mars! That would have been so amazing to witness and be a part of!" and the cool part is WE are the ones the people of the future will be referring to! :D

This is a huge step for getting human into space but it is way to late i mean they say we were had a human landing on our moon that i absolutly dont belive in, an now almost 80 years later we will try to send a person to mars, man does realy prioritise on strange stuff. But i would gladly go to mars, to have my name in the hirtory books forever

i heard that you cant put in any requests and that they have already chosen the top 25k participants and by 2018 the top 1k participants will be chosen and selected then in 2025 some lucky people would be sent up.

i would say no because i dont even want to go into the RAF because i want to stay on the ground unless im going away to another country and it would take me a long time to get used to mars and to wear the suits when i go outside and i would like to speak to people from earth instead of the people from mars because i might not be friends with them and then i will have no one to talk to

Huh... bet you 1,000 to 1 the UNSC though the same thing, and we saw what happen to them :(.

That's why the word probably is always good, because our minds still have to be open to the possibility that it could be a reality. Humanity's is great, but we understand very little when it comes to what's out there in the great beyond.

Going back to the topic, I have always loved space and space related things. Whenever the moon is out I will most of the time stare at it for a good fifteen minutes. Just wishing I could feel what it was like to be an astronaut jumping around up there. Halo really multiplied this feeling. I always love looking up at skyboxes in Halo games. That's why Truth and Reconciliation is one of my favorite missions of all time. All those beautiful stars.

I would go up to Mars... If I had nothing to lose. If I had nothing left for me on this Earth, then I would find purpose on Mars. For now though, nah.

Our future lies in the stars. Haven't you ever heard "shoot for the stars"?

because were actually talking about the stars...

Well if I had gone to Mars, I bet I would of suffered from Cabin fever within the few Months after we land and set up shop on Mars. Unless I'm grouped with a very friendly and relatable group o' People, but if not then I can see grudges and hatred forming quickly. Tensions would rise, and eventually it would go to hell in a handbasket.

You'd need to keep morale up so that people won't go crazy. I think the best thing that they should include is Television, though I don't know if a signal could travel that far and work.

Oh, and of course we would need a facility for "Special Activities" *wink wink nudge nudge* in case Crew members grow affectionate towards another, which is highly likely to happen.

I wouldn't want to go to Mars simply because I'm lazy. Now, if I could get away with doing no work while on Mars, and if we had electricity, internet, and video games... Well then I'd build my own shuttle. But THAT isn't going to happen for at least a few decades, and I simply can't go that long without XBL.

This is not the first time I have heard talk about this. What I find interesting is that NASA is doing this. Which I find interesting sicne we have stopped our Apollo Program to the moon, a place we should know very well about by know just like our earth. Except we cannot get to far into our earth yet, so we still have a whole undersea world to explore. But it surprises me that the US gov is not willing to fund NASA again after the recent space activity with China.
