343i 24th Weekly Community Poll

Welcome all to the 343i weekly poll! Last week's poll asked you if you thought Gravemind was dead. Here are the results of that poll:

NO! According to voters in the poll, Gravemind is still very much alive! Check out what Drizzy_Dan said about it last week:

The Gravemind of Halo 2 and 3 was just one of many many Graveminds spread out not only through our galaxy, but others in the universe. This one just happened to be a very powerful Gravemind, much more powerful than one that was just made. This one was on a level where it had abilities close to that of Precursors ie. the ability to telepathically talk to John and use transientience to teleport him and the Arbiter to their destinations in Halo 2 and how he does with his Flood in Halo 3. I don't think he was based on High Charity itself to be honest, I think that was just a main focal point for him and a highly concentrated Flood nest where he could send his thoughts.

Basically, no I don't think The Gravemind is dead. Not by a long shot.

This week we have our very first member submitted poll question from none other than the ruler of the shoutbox, Azaxx! This question is a very interesting one indeed, and it will be great to see what answers the community submits, here is your question:

Best forge? I'm pretty sure that question is pretty obvious. As much as they had made the Halo 4 forge a ton easier to use with the implementation of magnets, duplication tools, and the lock feature... It's still quite a pain to utilize at times. Mostly because the magnets will mingle with every other magnet on the map so it takes a bit to line up the pieces you want correctly, and every time you use the bumpers, they are a lot more sensitive causing the block you're trying to equalize to move up and down much more vigorously. This fact bringing up the lack of the fine editing tool when you zoom in on the element and while you move it, it will move very slowly, making it simple for construction of very difficult alignments. And of course... There is no forge without forge SPACE... Unfortunately the halo 4 areas were too small, terrain that is a bit too uneven and unproportional to make use of in most areas. Even though we were given Forge Island... It is still a beta element, as it has no terrain to work with, blatantly a flat land.

That is why my vote will be given to the Reach forge. The editing was not AS easy as Halo 4, but it was a ton more fun and genuine, the pieces were very nice looking with the forerunner chrome design that synergize with one another very well. The fine editing tool helps where magnets had in a way failed, especially with the size of the forge area we were given with Forge World. It was beautiful, aesthetic, full of nice terrain and topography, and overall a fantastic place to not only forge, but to just have fun dropping tanks on one another. :P

Being a very novice Forger, I'm speaking from a lack of experience. But from seeing what's been made on Halo 4 compared to what's been made on Reach, I'd have to say Halo 4's Forge is the best. Reach's was very smooth and my best creation was on Reach but I think if I actually Forged I could make something even better in Halo 4.

I almost think Halo 3 had the best forge. Sure we didn't have magnets, locks, and color coded items... But you could still do some pretty amazing stuff if you really worked at it. Remember how hard we all worked to interlock everything perfectly and geomerge the boxes in order to create complex geometry that we wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. Sure Forge in Halo 4 has all of its shiny new features... but I was far more addicted to the Halo 3 Forge.

Agreeable, as the forging in halo 3 took a lot more skill than the regular environments and physics that spoiled us in the later games. To make platforms float now, you just spawn it, in halo 3 you had to macgyver it with teleporters. Tricks were the old tools.

Bingo.

In my mind, it made you work at it even harder... and it was easier to appreciate a map for what is was.

So my answer also is Halo 3.

This... This is one interesting question! Well, Let me get started!!

Alright, So when Halo 3 had come out, Forge was more of a small tool; Something to use to edit the weapon layout and or spawn points. But after Foundry had come out, People in the community went in and made these amazing maps! Alexo670 with his shopping mall... Arby n' The Chiefs very own wedding episode... All in all, Forge was becoming something that people loved - And Bungie kept their eyes on that and made sure that it was maintained... Creative!

And that is when our very beloved map Sandbox had been aired to the gamers, And sure enough we had a huge assortment of pieces to use and mess around with. Like Arbiter 617s Pizza Delivery machinima, Located in a city built entirely out of the worn our sand blocks and wedges of the Sandbox. And that is when forge for Halo 3 met its limit.

When Halo: Reach had come out, It had brought forge back into the welcoming arms of machinima directors, builders, clan leaders, and just over all the fans a like. Halo: Reach had welcomed Forge World, A blank canvas for us all to use and let our minds flow. Reach had also welcomed new types of pieces... New inclines, New tunnels, New walls... New everything actually! And with the new "fine editing" tool, It made building your dream maps so much easier. Many famous games were either made or re-made in Halo: Reach! Like Speed Halo, Ice Cream Man, Fat kid, Etc.

When Halo 4's forge had been brought to the table, It was actually a different situation. We now had dynamic lighting, Welcoming some new shadows for the lovely and talented lurker Azaxx to roam in. And though Halo's forge pallet had a bunch of white foam looking items, And a more UNSC directed arsenal of objects, (Oppose to Halo: Reach's Forerunner look, And colors)... Halo 4 welcomed in magnets, Which could be a nuisance every now and then, As certain pieces don't fit correctly. 343 had also brought in duplication, A fast way to set options on items and keep them like that, With the click of one button. Halo 4 had 3 individual forge environments, Ravine, Impact, and Erosion. Erosion having its own Grifball court as a bonus... But since some fans didn't like the lack of area to forge, 343 released Forge Island, 3 different islands, 3 different sizes, and more objects to use. Also a green screen for some of those machinima directors as well.

All in all, I think (In my opinion) that Halo: Reach's forge mode had been the best. Though it doesn't rival Halo 4's Magnets, Dynamic Lighting, and duplication, Halo: Reach had a more vivid look to its items, Instead of a foam look. Halo: Reach also had more than just UNSC created items, Featuring covenant crates, gravity lifts, and objects that appeared more forerunner than anything! Halo: Reach also had Forge World, Which had a good balance between land and water, Making it possible to connect your fort to the island, or blood gulch. Also, You can't just leave out the colored Mongooses either!!

That is my view on it, Thanks for reading!! - TDM

Don't forget the lock option either!!
