Martin O'Donnell's Music Remains In Destiny Says Bungie

Recommended Posts

Bungie has come out and stated that despite controversy surrounding Marty O'Donnell's departure from the company, his music will remain in Destiny.

We received quite the depressing surprise on April 14th when we had the news broken to us that our beloved composer Martin O'Donnell had been terminated by Bungie. In an interview with people at Eurogamer.net, Pete Parsons said that Marty's magnificent work on the project would remain in the game, and that fans shouldn't worry about the game's soundtrack or the game itself's features. He had said that the game was, "close to shipping" and that he believes "the Bungie fanbase is going to look forward to hearing Marty's music, Mike Salvatori's music, C. Paul's music and Paul McCartney's music in the game," acknowledging that while polish still needs to be done, most of the game is complete and in it's finished state, just needing a shiny coat of paint to top it off.

While Marty's departure is melancholy news, most did fear it would impact the majority of their experience in the game. Now we know that isn't that case, but are you still as excited to play Destiny? Let me know below, thanks for reading!

So basically in terms of Halo, Destiny will sound like Halo Reach, and Destiny 2 will sound like Halo 4..... less epic and less capable music to provide proper atmosphere and tension to gameplay situationess. Great job Bungie, my ass hole salutes you all!

You didn't know Paul McCartney was working on Destiny?

I don't really care for Destiny was I supposed to know?

I also don't like The Beatles or follow pop culture so I wouldn't even know if Paul had a new album coming out.

I can tell you loads of Indie Game and science news you don't know about though.

Twin :hrhr:

Well I'm glad his music will stay in the game, I think we can all agree Marty O'Donnell is an amazing classical composer which is very hard to find in these times where classical music is pretty much dead. Still keeping my fingers crossed for Marty joining Halo again.

It was a reference to the horrible quality of ambient and atmospheric music the game contained. Most of the time, the music did not fit the mood or ambience of the missions or situations. The only part I found that fir well, was the m90_sacrafice cinematic in which Cortana says goodbye to Chief.

Halo Reach had a great score and every bit of music played well into it. No doubt, Destiny will sound just as epic thanks to Marty. Halo on the otherhand.... well without Marty for a sequel or add-on to.Destiny, if will sound like rabid gerbils having diahrea fits.

The main menu music of Halo 4, is just not right. Whenever it starts playing, I feel like I should be watching an opening scene for a military movie set in the Middle East, panning across deserts showing dead Afghan troops or some ****. Really depressing ****.

If I am honest why would it not ?

You fire a guy who has been composing the music for your game for a few years then just take all the music he did out the game when the game is close to coming out. :)

See how stupid it sounds ? This comes as no surprise to me at all.

I was't acting cocky or anything I was just saying in a friendly way. It wasn't in a "OMG you didn't know that?" way. Was just saying is all.

Apparently he was let go relating to Marty wanting a raise in payment for his efforts (Which I think is deserved), this could be false information, of course there's a lot more to the situation than that (If it is in fact true) but ultimately I don't think the information on the situation will see the light of day. This is very sad news, I'd like to think Marty's music changed me as a person, for the better and I'd like to think listening to his music throughout Halo or throughout the years has given me a better outlook on what real music is and should be. His music definitely made me feel good when I was in the mood for his music, it especially helped on bad days. He will be missed and I hope to hear his music again!
