Maybe I should do this when I'm awake, not extremely tired. Sorry for some of the mistakes. June 6, 1944 America, Great Britain, and Canada has invaded the beaches or Normandy. The first initial wave of the Army of all 3 have landed on the beach. Men dropping all around us, many wounded, many...dead. I see fellow brothers drowning from the gear weighing them down, and the panic they are pushing upon themselves. People taking one for the team, and that team is revenge, revenge for what they have done to us, and our allies. About 10 minutes in, and were down to about 3,000 men. I sit there, fear all inside of me, and my fellow comrades. We wonder one thing, and this is "how the hell are we going to get out of here alive, when we have a .50cal MG pinning us down?" Simple, we don't. This is the end. This is my final resting grounds, this is where I do not get to say goodbye, this is where I... Panic has taken over me, but the brute courage is taking the rest. I think of this happy place, a place where I feel at home. Home...Home will be waiting for me, but you cannot go about thinking of death, no, that is not how a Marine should act. We act with faith that we will go see or children, wives, family, friends. That is what pulled me through the times on Normandy, knowing that I have a wonderful life after this is all over, but will it ever be over? Thank You for what you have done guys. Thank You. EDIT: Today, June 6, 2014 marks the 70th anniversary for D-Day, so I decided to get a little creative. Also, you all can add on to it if you want, and I will pick the best ones to get added to the story. I don't know, something new I guess. You had to have sent some of the bravest soldiers in warfare history. Just imagine, running out onto a beach with machine guns flying and watching your friend die all around you. Western Allies, I cannot thank you enough for your service to help topple Nazi Germany and the Axis. Thank you for providing my country with the lend lease supplies and equipment we needed to kick Germany's *** in 1943 at Stalingrad, turning the tide of the Eastern Front. Well done Britain, for holding off against the ever so more trained and equipped Luftwaffe with your brave RAF. Brilliant job US, for coming back to be one of the most powerful nations in the world. You may have gotten your *** kicked in North Africa in the beginning, but you didn't give up. Good work Canada, for serving the Crown and helping defeat Nazi Germany. And the US didn't enter the war to fight for Europe's freedom from the Socialist Fist of Germany, they entered as an act of revenge and self interest. It just so happened that Europe's freedom hung in the balance. A cold hard fact is, nearly 90% of American and it's troops knew nothing about Germany or why they were doing what they did. All they were told was that germans like to kill Jews and all people of inferior breeding, and that they were bad. Not a single American or soldier I promise you, could talk about german values or ideals in great length at all during World War I and II. All they understood about the enemy, was that they were killing millions. I'm not justifying what my people did, but to talk about a people and what their government stood for so blindly without fact, is wrong on all counts. No one knew about the Holocaust until the end of the war. The US was there because after Pearl Harbor and the declaration of war on Japan Hitler decided it would be a good idea to then declare war on the US. So the US entered the war in Europe because Hitler declared war on them and Churchill was practically begging at that point in time. Eventually the big three powers met in Iran to discuss their plan. Stalin wanted a Western front open and in exchange the USSR would fight Japan after victory in Europe. So Operation Overlord was planned, DDay. It wasn't until after the allies were successfully in France that they decided to go into Germany for their self interests in order to prevent the USSR from spreading it's influence further west. I would like to know where you got your facts from and your certainty that the US soldiers had no idea why they were fighting Hitler.
