Outbalanced
I think it's awesome that 343 is making an anniversary of Halo 2. I think we can all agree it's what we've all wanted. However, will it go back like the old times? Do you guys think there will be as many people playing as there were before, or will it fail? rrhuntington
I don't think it's necessarily a fail if we don't get back to the old time numbers. Although with a good amount of people looking at this MCC as a great thing, (people say they're going to buy xbox ones for it) then this is still a good thing. With the lack of games on Xbox one and this being one of the best things coming out for it so far, I see it selling at good numbers and being played by many fans for many, many hours. However, will it go back like the old times? Do you guys think there will be as many people playing as there were before, or will it fail? There's so much content here, that a crapload of people will go to play it. I've seen people who absolutely HATE Halo 4, and the new Halos completely fall back on their grudge to go get the Halo: MCC Collection. Since the Halo 2 servers for PC were taken down, everyone who used to play it will now go to the MCC, since it has dedicated servers, and will most likely be supported for years to come. So looking around I think the MCC will revive the Halo community, and hopefully keep it that way.
RedStarRocket91
Honestly, while I definitely expect to see a huge population in the days immediately after the MMC is released, I think it's going to drop off fairly quickly. A lot of people will pick it up for nostalgia, play a few matches, and then just put it down again because it's not as good as they remember it being; a lot of people will buy it because they missed it the first time around, and then abandon it because they're surprised at how glitchy, buggy and full of exploits it is (remember, it's being released exactly as it was ten years ago); and a lot of people will pick it up and then abandon it because they prefer more modern shooters and just don't enjoy the older gameplay style as much. There's also the fact that there's just a lot more competition in the shooter market these days, so instead of the average gamer's options being Halo 2 or nothing, it's going to be any of the games in the MCC versus Call of Duty, Battlefield, Gears of War, Titanfall, etc. One of the most important things to remember is that the Call of Duty/Battlefield audience didn't come out of nowhere, and that the Halo 2 /Halo 3 audience didn't just disappear: they're largely made up of the same gamers and the same types of gamers. If most people genuinely still wanted to be playing old-style arena shooters like Halo, then Halo 3 and Halo 4 would still have a massive population: the fact that the average Call of Duty title pulls in around 100,000 gamers at any given time while Halo 3 struggles to pull in 1,000 just shows that's what people want. While I'm sure the MCC will sell well and the population across all four games will remain at reasonable levels for the forseeable future, it's never going to go back to the 200,000+ average populations that we used to see back in the mid-2000s. But on the other hand, since it ships with every map ever released, I'm finally going to be able to play the Halo 4 DLC, which is something I'm really looking forward to.
Twinreaper
Self Destruct, there were no Microsoft servers controlling Halo 2 PC all servers are rented or self hosted. The only thing Microsoft hosts is the GFWL Client, which doeant do anything outside of Live connection and product key activation, and the master server list. But the Master list host was moved to the Azure platform so no one datacenter or server now hosts it. Its virtual...in the cloud. Yrust me, it would be a cold day in hell before we PC Halo 2 die hards gave the game up for the console version. Unlike the console, we dont need the hefty Gold subscription to play it. And when Live goes down, we still have the ability to play online.
Mr Biggles
It'll definitely grow a lot more compared to halo 4, no question. As big as it used to be? I doubt it, like RSR said, there is a lot more competition these days in terms of FPS.
Fahzgoolin
I bought an Xbox One just for this and per-ordered the collection. I think the longevity of this collection will be a lot longer than Halo 4.
Caboose The Ace
^ I don't think so.... From what I have seen most are picking it up for Nostalgia and others because they never experienced it. < those 2 reasons seem to be the majority. And we all know that Halo 2 is not going to be as good as they remember, it will most likely seem old within a few days because they have already played it. It may also seem boring because no loadouts etc. I don't expect the MC collection player base to be massive but good enough to last till Halo 5 if you are looking for your Halo fix. SomeCreepinaVan
I played Halo 2 right up until the servers were shut down, and after not playing it for awhile, it was just as good as I remembered it. So it's not just nostalgia. The controls are super tight, maps are beyond reproach. 1080p and 60 fps are going to do wonders for the game. It's just an extremely fun game. I think the MCC as a whole will be very popular for awhile, unlike Halo 4.
