Halo: CE (2001) or Halo: CE Anniversary (2011)?

Recommended Posts

This has probably been asked before and I just don't know where to find it.  Has there been any clarification on which version will be in the Collection?  I'm showing my age, but I will be SO disappointed if it's the anniversary edition and not the original engine.  There are definitely differences in those two.

If you can link proof of a conversation with Frankie or someone that would be awesome.

Thanks!

The game is the same CEA game we got on the 360, but the XB1 has added "legacy" game emulation so the titles will run.  The one change is that the multiplayer element is added.  it works similar to the PC version, in the way that dedicated servers will be used to host the games, but not in the same way.  matches will be using the tried and true halo MM lobby system.  So it's like a blend of both for CEA.

You will still have the old original engine running things, with the Sabre 3d engine running along side of it to provide the graphical/sound updates of CEA.

That is absolutely STUPID then.  Why not include the original game that kicked off the whole franchise?  Halo CE Anniversary is NOT the same at all.  The Master Chief Collection is still a great deal...but it won't be what a lot of old timers wished it was.

The engine for the anniversary edition is definitely not the same as the original.  If it was, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Actually, the game engine in Anniversary is exactly the same as the one used on the original Halo: CE. The only thing that's changed is that a second engine is running at the same time to run the updated graphics, the actual physics, collision, and gameplay are the same as they've always been. The only area where the gameplay was powered by a different engine is the multiplayer, which was running on the engine used in Reach, and from what we've been told so far it looks the multiplayer Halo: CE maps in the MCC will be running on their original engine again.

They haven't revealed yet whether or not the Halo: CE multiplayer will actually have updated Anniversary graphics or just the ones that were shipped back in 2001, but if all you want to do is play it exactly as it came out except with the ability to play over XBL, then you'll definitely be able to do that.

The issue for me doesn't have anything to do with the campaign (should have clarified that).  For it to be a true CE experience for a lot of the original Halo multiplayer fans then we want the old 2001 engine running the physics and all the glitches that came with it.  My fear is that we'll end up with the Reach engine again running the CE Anniversary edition instead.  There is definitely a HUGE difference in gameplay between the two.

I share your concerns about that one Paul.  Surfice to say, we still don't know enough about the logistics of the actual lobby and MM system.  We can only conclude from tweets and interviews, that the CE multiplayer will be the same exact PC style multiplayer, but brought over to console.  And yes that means the original engine will be used, with only the sabre 3d engine being used for graphics mode.  So your poor non-existent vehicle physics will be there as you remember, as well as the collision, sound and effects.

Frank O Connor has already said it will be the EXACT Halo CE multiplayer from 2001.

Also CEA is CE with updated graphics. CEA's multiplayer was on Reach but the MCC Collection will have the ORIGINAL CE multiplayer.
