Flippant Sol
Custom servers is a featurette that not most games on console support, and with good reason: you have to jurisdict player bans, map and gametype cycles, and the fact that custom servers will split up the main userbase. On PC, it is mainly used for PC exclusive games, that, when properly implemented, can result in some very unique and refreshened experiences. Implementing custom servers, however, is a monumental task, especially when you, in this case, give someone a dedicated server... there's like 5,000,000 Xbox One users and only 300,000 servers... In disregard to how custom servers will interact with dedicated servers, I believe that a form to start a custom server in Halo: Guardians would look something like this: Server Name: placeholder Supported Gametypes: placeholder Supported Maps: placeholder Player Limit: placeholder Password (Optional): *********** This way, all servers follow the same architecture and thus, raise the joined player's curiosity instead of raising their fear of h4xx0rz lobbies and, custom lobbies would be crucial to Machinima. There are a few major problems to point out, such as... > If only 300,000 hosts get to enjoy lag-free dedicated servers, and someone forged an enormous map that, without dedicated servers would, destory the hosts connection, would the custom server's be able to identify the data size and postpone the game until a dedicated server is open? > Could forge and possibly theater mode work across a custom server? If so, what's stopping players from joining and deleting everything? > When server's are flagged to be shut down, will all joined players just lose connection, or will the service wait until the game is oveer? > Will there be spectators and match queue? > If clans use the custom servers, can parameters be set in place to prevent non-clan members from joining? All of these and more raise the future of online gaming.
Is not JL
Just because the game runs on dedicated servers doesn't 100% pertain to meaning that players can host their own servers.
