Caboose The Ace
If you have read Halo the fall of Reach the next two you should read is Halo the Flood followed by Halo first strike. In that order.
Buns
Halo The Fall Of Reach Halo The Flood(you can skip this one since it is basically Halo CE in book form) Halo First Strike Halo Ghost Of Onyx Halo Glasslands Halo The Thursday War Halo Mortal Dictata Halo Cryptum Halo Primordium Halo Silentium Now the books below this are only extra material and are really meant for hardcore fans of the series Halo Contact Harvest Halo The Cole Protocol Halo Evolution(Get volume 2 since it is the same as volume 1 but includes more short stories) Why should I read the books in this order? Because each book influences the next in some way. The forerunner trilogy is last because it answers all the questions about Forerunners posed in each book(and some questions about the Forerunners from the games) and are frankly the best books in the list. Reading them in this way helps you better understand what happen and remain consistent with the knowledge of lore. Why are the last 3 books "extra material"? Because those books are each their own standalone story. They aren't influenced by any previous books and they don't influence any other books(but they do explain a LOT of the backstory behind the War and universe of Halo). They're very good books but if you just want to stick to the game plot and don't care about extra lore then there is no need to bother with them(except Halo Evolution since that tells the origin story and backstory of quite a few things) After you read the books I highly recommend you read the comics and watch Halo Legends + Halo FuD. The latest comic series Halo Escalation is fantastic and while the art is "meh" the story is "escalating" really well.
Yoshi1176
The books are great, I've read the first three so far. You'll enjoy them all especially First Strike.

The Director
I disagree with Bnus on two points. 1. I believe you can read Contact Harvest first, as it tells you exactly how the covenant war started and why, and will bring a lot of things to light as you read the other books. 2. Forerunner Saga is the driest writing I have ever seen in a science fiction story.

Of course you can read CH first, You can read the Forerunner trilogy first if you want to know the backstory for the universe. You can read the Kilo Five trilogy first if you want to know the events that lead up to Halo 4. However the list I suggested is optimal if you just want books that have the biggest influence on the games and tie in with the games story quite easily. 2. I loved the Forerunner Saga. Sure it was really slow and lacking substance compared to other books, but the world it created within those books was fantastic.

You can read CH first because it's the true prequel to the other books. The forerunner saga is meant to be read after all of the other books so that while you are reading the series, you go "Hmm. I wonder about this" because without that you are going to find the forerunner sage to be really, really dull. CH on the other hand shows you what directly caused the events in the books that you are reading. This way, while you are reading those books, you can be like, "Oh, I see why they are doing that." You don't get that same experience with FS. 2. "Sure it was really slow and lacking substance compared to other books" Not just other Halo books. I meant ALL sci-fi books in general. Frankenzer
I completely disregard the fall of reach after I read it and played halo reach. I also hate the last part of contact harvest. Why did we have to know that?
