I_Make_Big_Boom
Bonnie Ross, Studio Head & General Manager for 343 Industries, decided to have a chat with Parade Magazine. The interview is kinda short, but does have some minor new information. I added some images to kind of flesh out the interview more. Hope you guys enjoy. ----- Parade Magazine: Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer a few questions. Bonnie Ross: My pleasure. Le Menu PM: Halo [CE]: Anniversary was not only a graphical upgrade to highlight the graphical difference between 2001 and 2011. It also had a re-mastered and altered soundtrack. Will that be the case for Halo 2: Anniversary? BR: Yes. The same treatment will be given to Halo 2: Anniversary as it was for the Halo [CE] : Anniversary. So that means re-mastering the soundtrack and enhancing the weapon noises. I’m sure you noticed the weapon sound effects changes during the demo. Hehe... yeehaw PM: I did. The sub-machine guns sounded “punchier.” BR: And that’s really what we wanted to do when re-mastering these games is keep what players know as familiar but also approach a slew of new fans who may have not even been born when the early Halo games came out. Definitely NOT one of the Solid Gold Elite Dancers PM: With this vast composition of Halo games, it’s odd to see any omissions. Why was Halo: Reach (2010) excluded from the collection? That game not only sets up the events of Halo: Combat Evolved (2001) but also details where Master Chief’s A.I., Cortana, originated, and she is just as important as Master Chief. BR: When we sat down deciding what we wanted The Master Chief Collection to be, we made a conscious choice to focus completely on the Master Chief character. You’re right that Cortana is vital to the character but we really wanted to spotlight the player and their experience with the Master Chief. It really is his story that The Master Chief Collection concentrates on. Looks like he... self destructed PM: Another omission that seems peculiar is that Halo 3 is not getting the graphical update that the previous games got and are getting. BR: Well it is the 10-year anniversary for Halo 2. Who knows what will happen in the future? (laughs). Make like a tree, and *chief*... that was horrible... PM: One more question. Halo 4 depended heavily on the novels series of The Forerunner Trilogy and other extended media. Entire events and motivations were alluded to in Halo 4 but never truly explained unless you did the homework. Is that something you plan on continuing with Halo 5: Guardians? BR: Halo 4, being our first studio-developed game, had some things that we were trying out and experimenting with. Some of them hit and some of them didn’t. With Halo 5: Guardians, we are going to make a more mindful effort to make sure that Halo 5 will be its own standalone story with the extra stuff being recommended but certainly not required of the player. ----- Welp that's it for the interview. Now time to focus view on a few tidbits! 1: Well it is the 10-year anniversary for Halo 2. Who knows what will happen in the future? 2: With Halo 5: Guardians, we are going to make a more mindful effort to make sure that Halo 5 will be its own standalone story with the extra stuff being recommended but certainly not required of the player I hope this really means that Halo 5 won't rely heavily on external media to get the story straight. I never had the problem of not knowing what was going on in Halo 4, but other people struggled to find their way through the story. And... come on. We all want a Halo 3: Anniversary. c: Thanks for reading!
