Well here we are. Mafia 8.0. Get ready for Ultimate rekage. :spiteful:

 

I obviously took some things that Bnus/Centurion did with 7.0, so I'd like to give credit to them for some of the stuff in 8.0 (including part of the banner).

 

 

Finally, I'd like to take the time to honor the previous Mafia games, and their hosts.  :good:

Factions

 

 


 
Contacting plan (Bnus/Centurion's version):

  • If you are a Civilian, you will NOT receive a PM when the game starts. 
  • If you are a Special Role of the Protown or Neutrals I/Yang will send you a PM that you must respond to ASAP. If you are a Mafian, I/Yang will send you all a group PM, and I/Yang will need a response ASAP. 

Ultimate Abilities:

  • The Ultimate are described in detail in the Ultimate tab below the Factions tab.

Ghosts

Ghosts are dead players from any Faction. They can interact with their own Factions & everyone else regularly, but they can't use their powers: ultimate or inherent. Ghosts aren't allowed to vote either.

 

A dead player's aligned Faction, and role is revealed when they die.

 

12x Protowns

Can willingly work with Neutral, but NOT Mafia. They win by killing all the Mafians: regardless if any of the Neutrals are alive:

 
9x Civilians - Angry Townspeople

  • No powers other than the power to vote.

 

1x Detective - Wannabe Sherlock Holmes

  • Can investigate anyone's role 1 time per round.
  • (Ultimate) Saboteur: (Round 3), the Detective can prevent the Mafians from executing anyone for the next round instead of investigating someone. 1 time use.

1x Medic - Doctor Ned

  • Can protect anyone 1 time per round: including themself. The protectee's role is confirmed after this. Can protect any of the 3 factions.
  • (Ultimate) SacrifizzleThe Medic can kill themself to protect the Mafian's next execution target from ANY damage for 1 round: including Sentences, Assassinations, and Lynches. A Medic condemned to die by Lynch or Sentence can still use this ability as a last resort. 1 time use.


1x Snitch - The Weasel

  • 2x Rat-outs: Can appoint a person of their choosing to be on the Suspect List of the next even round (2,4,6,8,10,12,etc).

 

3x Neutrals

Can willingly work with either Protown, Neutral or Mafia. Neutrals cannot win the game:

 

1x Sniper - The Winter Soldier

  • Can kill 1 person of their choosing, but has to wait 3 rounds before they can do it again. The person they wish to be killed can be protected by the Medic. However if both the Mafia, and Sniper attack a target at the same time then that person will die. Counts as -1 Life for the Juggernaut.
  • (Ultimate): Gumshoe: (Round 3) The Sniper can investigate 1 person just like the Detective instead of sniping someone, but will have to wait a round before they can use their main ability again. 1 time use.


1x Judge - The Banhammer

  • 2x Sentences: During a Lynch, they can sentence 1 person to death once every 3 rounds. The person who is sentenced dies along with the person with the max votes at the end of a Round. Counts as -1 life for the Juggernaut. Cannot be done after voting is locked.
  • (Ultimate): Corruption: (Round 2) The Judge can switch the votes of the person with the max votes with the person who has the lowest votes. Can be used instead of a Sentence, but the Judge will have to wait a round before they can use their main ability again. Cannot be done after the votes are locked. 1 time use.

1x Jailkeeper - "Get out of Jail" free card

  • 2x Bails: Can bail anyone: including themself out of a Lynch once every 2 rounds with the person's name removed from the Lynch. Cannot be done after voting is locked. 

6x Mafians

Can willingly work with Neutral, but NOT Pro-town. They win by killing all the Protowns: regardless if any of the Neutrals are alive:
 

3x Mafian mobsters - The Syndicate

  • No powers other than the power to vote.

 

1x Hacker - The Brains 

  • 1x Hack: The Hacker can disable Protown or Neutral's role powers (but not their Ultimates) for 1 round.
  • (Ultimate) Brainwash: (Round 5) The Hacker takes a random Civilian (who's not dead, or confirmed) and turns them into another Mafian. 1 time use.


1x Juggernaut - The brawn. He/She's the Juggernaut, *****!

  • 2x Lives: Any form of death counts as -1 Life for the Juggernaut. A life loss is a public confirmation they're Mafia.
  • (Ultimate) Invulnerability: (Round 4The Juggernaut is immune to damage for 1 round once used, BUT their role is revealed. The Juggernaut receives +1 Life if they survive the next 2 rounds after their last invulnerable round. 1 time use.


1x Don - The Boss

  • 2x Special Votes: Can cast 2 independent votes: one of them being anonymous. After the vote is locked the secret vote will be revealed. This can be done once every odd Round (ie 1,3,5,7,9,etc).

 

 

 

Ultimate Abilities

 

 

 

 

Ultimate Abilities are optional abilities available to 2 out of 3 Special Roles within the 3 Factions. They each do their own different thing, and add a new dynamic to the game aside from the Special Role's regular abilities. All the Ultimate Abilities' names, and descriptions are in the Faction tab above.

 

I urge the players to not use their Ultimate Abilities unless they absolutely need to.

  • ALL the Ultimate Abilities CANNOT be used after death.
  • The Hacker's main ability does NOT disable either the Neutral, or Protown's Ultimate power.
  • (Round #) This indicates when the Ultimate Ability becomes available. You can choose to activate it in the 48 hour wait before the Round comes (for people who can have their ability used at the start of the round). You CANNOT use your ability before the unlocking time.
  • The Medic is the only role where their ability is unlocked from the start.
  • After the Ultimate is unlocked, the player is free to use it when they like EXCEPT:
  1. The Ultimates can only be used during a specific part of a round for each of the roles (list below)
  2. The Ultimates for a few roles can penalize you with more waiting time before you can use your main ability.
  • Only the Medic and Juggernaut have their roles revealed when using their Ultimate Abilities. No other role has an ability that reveals their role (Ultimate, or inherent), however they can still attempt to reveal their role willingly if they choose to.

Where the Ultimate Abilities of all the roles are allowed to appear:

  • The Scene - DetectiveSniperHackerJuggernaut & possibly the Medic are publicly announced and activated in this region of the Round.
  • The Suspect List - Judge, and possibly the Medic are publicly announced and activated in this region of the Round.
  • The Lynch - The Juggernaut & possibly the Medic are publicly announced and activated in this region of the round.

 

 

 

Rounds

 

 


 
A Round is composed of this:

  1. The Scene - The story, and the first part of a Round where the Execution/Protection/Assassination takes place. Set during the night story-wise.
  2. The Suspect List - Where 3 (2 if the Snitch chooses someone to be there) randomly chosen players, and the 1 Mafian who did the Execution reside. The Don/Judge/Jailkeeper can use their main power during the vote.
  3. The Lynch - Where the person voted & Sentenced (Judge) to die with be killed in a continuation of the Scene story: they will die, and have their role publicly revealed. If there is a tie between 2-4 people then it will revert back to a Voting list with just those people, and the voters will have to choose who to die again. If it's still a tie then RNG will choose who shall die. The Lynch Scene is set during the day story-wise.
  4. 48 hour (2 day) wait.

 

During the 48 hour (2 days) wait before the next Round is posted: The Detective/Medic/Snitch/Sniper must reply in their role PMs to use their powers. The Mafians will use their group PM stating the person they want to kill, along with the person who will do it.  ALL the roles will need to use their inherent Host - Role PMs to use their regular & Ultimate powers.
 
1.      The first Round is posted 48 hours (2 days) after the last was posted (or after the official game page is posted since it's the beginning of the game), The beginning of the round is set during the Night.
 
2.      Daytime now starts after the Suspect list is posted (which is posted simultaneously with the Scene. In some cases the Suspect List is posted later).

 

3.      When the Suspect List is posted, all players (except Ghosts) will be able to vote for the people listed in the suspect list only. 1 Mafian (the person who did the Execution in a Round, or botched it), and 3 randomized players (2 if the Snitch chooses someone to be on that Lynch) show up in a Lynch. After 48 hours I/Yang will tally up the votes and then write the Lynch scene where the player with the most votes will be lynched. If everyone chooses Null then no one will die (unless the Don, or Judge uses their powers).

 

As listed above if there's a tie between 2-4 people then it will go to another voting process between those people. If that fails yet again then it will fall on RNG to pick who dies (the Don's secret vote immediately comes in play before the RNG happens, so if they did use that vote it will NOT go to RNG).

 
4.      Daytime will then be over, and there will be 48 hours (2 days) until the next Round/Scene is posted.

 


 

RULES

 

 

 

 

1 Mafian (the person who did the Execution in a Round, or botched it), and 3 randomized players (2 if the Snitch chooses someone to be on that Lynch) show up per Lynch.

 

There can be an RNG between 2-4 people in a Lynch. Be warned that the first time it's a tie that you will be forced to pick someone to die yet again. If that doesn't work THEN RNG will choose who to die.

  • You may screenshot anything you wish and post it within the thread. Images can also be edited to help you in your plans.
     
  • You may PM other players in your attempts to figure out other roles, and further your own plans.
     
  • You may accuse other players of roles within the thread and out of it, or lie.
     
  • You may reveal, or fake your role.
     
  • You may not use information within this game to help you in things out of the game, e.g. "I'll tell you my role if you give me a 48 hour gold trial."
     
  • Do not request me for a role.
     
  • You may not under any circumstances intentionally aid the enemy team.
     
  • You may not under any circumstances use staff or mod powers, whether they are yours or someone else's, to aid your team.
     
  • All dead players will have their faction and role revealed publicly.
     
  • Ghosts (dead players) can do everything they could in life except for vote and use role powers. A Ghost CANNOT use their Ultimate Abilities.
  • No multi-lynching. If there is a tie the voting will go on for another night (if it is another tie then a RNG will be used to finish the job).
  • You can commit Suicide in the game. Your role will be revealed afterward.

Give me number 18.. This is going to be insane... Balance or not, who cares?

 

Well it is up to you guys to help me balance it out. This is what a suggestions page is for.

 

I'll take any, and all criticism/suggestions if you have any. :)

 

+ The roles' abilities can change if enough people want them to.

If the hacker uses his ability, is he revealed? Or did I read that wrong?

I'll check and update the description. The Hacker will not be revealed if they use their abiltiy: Ultimate or otherwise.

 

The only roles that have abilities that reveal their roles on usage are the Juggernaut & Medic's Ultimate Abilities.

 

Of course anyone can publicly reveal their role if they choose to. You're probably going to have a hard time getting people to believe you if you don't have evidence.

The Mafian number is too low 16 civs and 3 neutrals makes at maximum 19  people who may need to be killed with 16 definite.

Maybe this has always been the number of Pro town in Pro town.  But right now I feel the mafians should have 1 or 2 more mafians.

When the Hacker uses their Ultimate Ability (which they are definitely sure to use) the Protown - Mafia ratio will look like this: 12x Civilians - 6x Mafians. That's half (not counting the 3 Protown Special roles). Plus the Juggernaut has 2 lives, and possibly another if they survive after they use their Ultimate Ability: making them represent 3 Mafians. The ratio would look like this then: 15 Protowns or 12 Civilians - 8 Mafians. That's above half.

 

Now we'll most likely not get a full roster, but the number of Mafians will always stay the same. So we might end up with a lesser Protown to Mafian ratio (as in less Protowns).

 

Don't forget that the Neutrals can choose to help either faction, so they can in a sense be counted as an extra Mafian if they choose.

 

I might add some more Mafians. We'll have to see how many people actually sign up though to get the ratio right.

 

 

Now on the topic of Neutrals winning... I honestly don't know if I should allow that. I mean I want to, but I feel that would give the Neutrals incentive to not help the other Factions (which they don't have to in the first place, but they cannot win if they do that). You would probably see less teamwork between the Neutrals and other Factions (well on the surface. They might have an ulterior motive for helping you then: like using you to win).

Neutrals win by succeeding in their goal. They don't actually have to stay alive to do it. For example, a Neutral could set his goal as "cause utter chaos", snipe people with no discernible pattern, and succeed even if he dies before the game ends.

I don't think that's how it works... I'm pretty sure it's surviving. I guess you could say that, but that's more of an "Honoring" than actually winning... Live your own dream.

Suggestion: Stop separating sign-up and game threads because that does nothing other than clutter up Offbeats

 

Offbeat has only 1,000,000,000 threads, so I think adding just 1 more thread won't hurt.

 

If you want less clutter then ask for a separate "Forum Games" section in Suggestions/Ideas.

That, I have to agree with. How about renaming the topic to remove everything after "8.0" and just having the game played here once the player list is filled?
