Popular Post The Director
Reporting Guidelines Hey ladies and gents, it's recently come to my attention that we don't actually have anything out in the public regarding any sort of rules for reports. Those who break the rules are informed without being punished the first time, but I thought it might be nice to let you guys know about the rules regarding the reports. So here's a little do/don't thing. Do: 1. Report members for breaking rules on their profile page using their profile page. 2. Report members for breaking rules in the shoutbox using their profile page. 3. Report members for breaking rules in threads using their post box. 4. Report members for breaking rules in the fileshare by using the post box. Don't: 1. File an erroneous report. You'll notice that there's only one don't. It's a pretty simple one to avoid as well. Do not file a report against someone if they are not breaking any rules. We'll delve deeper into that a bit further on in this topic. What to do when reporting someone: If the rule breach is in the shoutbox, please try to grab a screenshot of the infraction. We understand if you can't, but it helps us greatly if you do. Report the member using the report button on their post (just to the left of the quote buttons) if they are breaking the rules in a thread. This allows us to go directly to their post instead of having to dig for it. Staff Response It is strongly suggested that you read the following, as this deals with disciplinary action as a result of filing an erroneous report. Remember, ignorance of the rules is not immunity to them. Here are some examples of erroneous reports. These are not all of the examples, just some of them. A report filed in an attempt to get someone in trouble even though they weren't breaking any rules. A report filed as a joke (there's some leniency in this case, but please try to avoid it). A report filed with incorrect information in an attempt to get a post removed or a topic locked because you disagree with it's content. Filing a report to spam/harass the moderator team with report notifications (this will get you banned [very quickly and harshly]). Okay, so now that you know what I'm talking about, here's the punishments for each time it happens. Some instances will result in either more or less disciplinary action than what is listed. i. A verbal warning via Private Message with an explanation regarding why you are receiving the PM. ii. A formal warning point that expires in 240 days. iii. One week ban from the forum and an additional warning point. iv. A 90 day ban from the forum and an additional warning point. v. A permanent ban from the forum and having your name changed to something degrading.
I_Make_Big_Boom
So all my reports with silly "Yo dude dis spam is off th chaaaaain" kind of stuff will get me in trouble? Even if the person I'm filing the report on actually did post spam? (I never post a report for anything other than spam).

I admit, I've done that type of thing before when I've noticed an Obvious spam bot.

depressant
^ Yeah, this is why I don't report people. It's too confusing and I don't want to get myself in trouble if it's not a reason to report.
The Director
So all my reports with silly "Yo dude dis spam is off th chaaaaain" kind of stuff will get me in trouble? Even if the person I'm filing the report on actually did post spam? (I never post a report for anything other than spam). It literally doesn't say that anywhere in the topic. I can see how you'd get confused though, with the "report filed AS a joke" bit, but that means a report on someone who hasn't broken any rules for the purpose of humor, and it is also followed by "there's some leniency in this case, but please try to avoid it". Filing a report WITH a joke in it is fine and dandy, which I thought would be obvious considering the second sentence of the topic is "Those who break the rules are informed without being punished the first time" and you oh so obviously have not been informed of that, considering your question. tl;dr No. And start reading stuff newb.

Unease Peanut
What about accounts you suspect of being a spambot? For example accounts with a random number GT, that go offline instantly or have a display name that resembles other spambot accounts. They aren't breaking any rules (yet), should we report them? If you suspect them of being a spambot but they haven't spammed yet? No. We have tools to determine if accounts are spambots and Azaxx and I are kind of compulsive in using them. You won't get in trouble for it, but why waste your time with it?
Spyro
That last punishment seems a bit harsh. Not the permaban, but the name change. I understand it's there to prevent people from breaking the rules, but still. .-.
