Spectral Jester
As mentioned in yesterday’s Indieverse, Microsoft is making some changes to Xbox Live Indie Games. The biggest of which is raising the maximum size for an indie game from 150MB to 500MB. This means you’re going to be able to get over three times more potential game in return for your money, which will be nice, especially considering how rampant RPGs have become on the service. With the game size ceiling being upped, another improvement for players is that indie games that cost a dollar can now be much, much larger. Before, any game with a file size over 50MB had to be priced at more than 80 MSP ($1), meaning either 240 ($3) or 400 MSPs ($5). Now developers can sell a full 150MB game for just $1. The third item says developers are now allowed to list 20 titles on the Xbox Live Indie Games channel, where before it was limited to just 8. That might not mean a whole lot in the short term, but it does mean if you’re a fan of a specific developer, you’ll be able to go on there and eventually find an extensive archive of their titles. There’s a lot more improvements being requested from the indie development community on Microsoft’s forums, including the ability to add Achievements and online leaderboards to games, to be able to sort indie games by genre on Xbox Live, and just overall better exposure on the Dashboard. Here’s hoping some of these wishes come true in the New Year for indie games.
