It's been barely two years since Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon brought back the old-school Metroidvania flavor to a new generation of players, but the mini-franchise already has three entries. Now, fresh off the heels of its last patch, Curse of the Moon 2 has received a new update that fixes a nasty bug and adds a new difficulty for the most die-hard Vania-heads out there.

Curse of the Moon 2's previous 1.2.0 update added a boss rush to the game, which can only be accessed after fulfilling certain conditions. However, that boss rush came with a nasty bug which prevented the game from auto-saving after completing the mode, meaning that all of your hard work was for naught. Along with fixing that issue--as well as another save bug--update 1.3.1 adds a new difficulty, Legend, that is said to be harder than the game's existing Veteran setting.

The retro sequel has enjoyed a positive critical reception since it came out on July 10. In GameSpot's Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 review, critic Steve Watts called the game an effective follow-up to its predecessor, though it doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel in the process. "The first thing you should know about Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 is that it features a playable corgi named Hachi who pilots an enchanted mecha-tank," he wrote. "The second thing you should know is that the classic Castlevania homage is in every way a marked improvement over the first Curse of the Moon. In fact, silly and meme-able as it is, the corgi represents a more playful spirit in this sequel that makes the whole experience richer."
