While the game still focuses on the historically accurate Viking invasion of England in 873 AD, which also includes a chance to meet historical figures from that era, there'll be more supernatural elements that you can encounter and battle. According to narrative director Darby McDevitt, exploration of the game world will unlock mythological adventures, which exist separately from the main campaign. One of the creatures shown off in the Future Games Show Gamescom video was the Black Shuck, a ferocious hound. "The Black Shuck is a particular piece of mythology that's very, very common in England," McDevitt explained in the video. "There are a lot of stories and tales about black dogs that roam the night. The Black Shuck is particular to East Anglia, but there is a lot of black dog phenomenon found around England."
