Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Village has surpassed 5 million copies shipped worldwide, including digital copies sold. In a news release, Capcom said Resident Evil Village reached 5 million units shipped faster than Resident Evil VII, which went on to become the highest-selling Resident Evil game of all time with 10 million sold. So if Resident Evil Village can keep up its sales pace, it has a chance of itself becoming the new best-seller.

In reaching 5 million units shipped, Resident Evil Village becomes Capcom's 10th best-selling game in the company's history. 1998's Resident Evil 2 sold 4.96 million units and was previously No. 10 on Capcom's all-time top-selling list.

Capcom's best-selling game overall continues to be Monster Hunter World, which has sold more than 20 million copies.

Resident Evil Village shipped 3 million copies right away at launch in May, which pushed the entire series past 100 million copies sold. It achieved 4.5 million in shipments in July and has now added another 500,000 more to hit 5 million.

In addition to the games, Capcom recently released Resident Evil: Infinite Darkess on Netflix, while a new live-action Hollywood movie called Welcome to Raccoon City premieres in November.

We scored the game a 9/10 in our Resident Evil Village review, calling it "an excellent return to the horror underpinnings of the franchise, but cunningly altered with new ideas and a new perspective."
