343iBot
While still unconfirmed, the evidence for a new GoldenEye remaster continues to mount. VGC discovered that the GoldenEye trademark covering "downloadable electronic game software" was granted its second extension just this week. This alone does not necessarily mean anything, and trademarks are filed and extended by companies regularly, even when there are no plans to release a product. That may also be true here. But the GoldenEye trademark renewal for software specifically is intriguing given that an HD remaster of the classic N64 game GoldenEye has been rumored for some time. VGC reported that the announcement of such a game might be delayed due to Russia's attacks against Ukraine, given how GoldenEye's story involves Soviet Russia. In January, GoldenEye 007 Achievements on Xbox leaked, which might be further evidence of an upcoming remaster. Fans may recall how a finished remaster of GoldenEye for Xbox 360 was ready to go until it was canceled due to licensing issues. A GoldenEye remake for the Wii was released in 2010, but it featured Daniel Craig standing in for Pierce Brosnan. A Reloaded edition for PS3 and Xbox 360 was released later. 2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the James Bond series. The company behind the franchise teased today that fans should "watch out for announcements, events, and new content across 2022." A re-release of GoldenEye 007 could be among the surprise announcements, it seems, though nothing is confirmed at this stage. This year we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the James Bond series. Given 2022 is an anniversary year for the James Bond series, here's to hoping we get to see or learn more about the game this year.
