Report: Next Xbox is Like "Two PCs Taped Together," Requires Always-On Net Connection

Recommended Posts

Strap on your rumour boots, here’s some fresh whispers about the Xbox 720. Or whatever it’s going to be called.

According to the latest reports, the next generation Xbox has been fully detailed to some third parties, ahead of a rumoured Christmas 2013 release.

So here’s the details. “Multiple sources” are saying that the machine will have two GPUs, with one source saying, “It’s like two PCs taped together.” Apparently, the graphics cards are believed to be equivalent to AMD’s 7000 series GPUs, but “not CrossFire or SLI”. Unlike dual-PC set-ups, these GPUs will work independently, drawing separate items simultaneously.

Furthermore, the Xbox 720 CPU will have “four or six” cores, with one reserved for Kinect (which is said to be built in as standard), and one for the operating system.

Most controversial, however, are suggestions that the Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure. That can't be true, right? Imagine enjoying a single-player title and the whole thing comes to a halt because your internet has died. Rage. Fingers crossed that bit isn't true

Spectral, wrong.

The requirements for two GPU's will consist in multiple heatsinks, indefintely water cooling.

Two GPUs and a water cooling system will cost up to a fair £150-250 already.

Two GPUs are useless with one CPU.

Of course, you can't have two central processing units, can we now?

This rumour is properly fake as this would cost ridiculously more amount of money.

The final income from the first month of sales will be drastically lower.

You're basicly saying: "Lets take stuff out of a tower and put it in a tiny case and bet on how long it takes to overheat!"

This rumour is ridiculous, I doubt it will have two GPUs.

Desktops & Towers > Consoles.

Always.

I've heard a rumour about an overclocking button for the case of the 720, this properly is also fake. No kid should be left capable of lighting shoddy RAMs on fire all day long.
