What happened to Living Dead?

What happened to the Living Dead game mode? Back in the good old days, (AKA when you could actually play a good map and game mode, circa January 2012) I would hop on, and play a fun round of Alpha Zombies on Sword Base, then continue with the game. Living Dead was my passion. I loved it. It was fun, and everyone I talked to thought so as well. You'll understand then, why I am so bedazzled (No, this is not the correct use of the word) at why it all changed! The announcement came "We'll be including some Player-Made maps to the Living Dead game mode." I thought 'Oh, that'll be fun. Finally a chance to try a little something different.' It was alright at first. I was optimistic about it all, thinking that we were going to play Undead Village, or maybe a spinoff of Hot Pursuit. No. Instead, Living Dead took a terrible, spiralling turn, much like chivalry, of horrible forging. "Uncongealed? Spooky Base? What is this, a concentration camp?!?" Not quite, not yet. But like 1938, the tide was turning, and the scapegoat of 343's Hitlerish wrath was Living Dead. I know what you're thinking. "Did he just make a Holocaust reference?" Yes, I did. For if we don't do something, then the Reach that we know and love could well turn into the site of a Halo-caust. The fun games dissapeared. Alpha Zombies became less common, and then almost inexistant. And soon, the beloved maps that we enjoyed playing dissapeared. I figured that if I kept playing, they were bound to turn up. They haven't. Not even now. I have played Living Dead about 10 times for 2 weeks straight, and the only decent map that ever turned up was Boardwalk (which isn't that bad, except when I say only map, I mean ONLY map). I am not biased about 343, not at all. I really am looking forward to Halo 4, and respect 343 for taking on the monumental task of keeping the fire burning. I don't agree with all their desisions, but I am an optomistic person. I have posted this Topic to make my anger and dislike of what 343 has been doing to Living Dead public. I don't like the game mode anymore now. And the whole "Choose which maps we'll put up by playing them!" thing isn't working. How can we vote on a map we like, if it isn't an option? 343, if you want to do a good thing, bring back Living Dead. The REAL living dead. Because the dish that you've been trying to shove down our throats (no homo) is moldy and tastes like crap. Do the right thing, let the people decide, like on Slayer, or give us a forum to make our opinions heard. Please, listen to us. Comment below if you agree or disagree. Really, I want to know if I'm the only one out here.

I still think its amazing, you can still get classic maps its just people prefer something different and things that are more challenging so of course they will pick the newer and more challenging maps.

the good thing about your post i like, is how you say YOU dislike it, many people include 'all' of the community. But I can understand your frustration, and thats wehy i dont play Living Dead anymore

I can kind of agree just based on the forge maps. Im hoping 343 unlike Bungie will realize these aren't acceptable replacements for real maps..

Id rather play a real map any day.

Well spoken, I couldn't agree with you more. The maps suck and the sword lunge lag couldn't be worse. I used to beast it up with 3 running riots a game and then it was all ruined when bungie fell off the planet. 343 must be successful on Halo 4 to satisfy everyone, and i'm talking around 20,000 living dead players who gave up on the game mode.

I really only played that game mode until the real maps started to disappear. Then i stopped but i play every once in a while. I hope 343i doesnt make the same mistake.

i thought for a second you did talk about the OLD good days when they didn't even had alpha zombie just plain infection with 8 players and no forged maps (as i remembered it)but ya i also dislike the new maps and game modes

miss my best time when i got like 64 kills and died 2 times on cage... good memories

I agree, the blocked off all of the good camp spots and messed up all of the maps By making them Spooky Base and Uncongealed. I really like the other maps 1,000,000 times better than the new ones.

Hi, first post! I just wanted to say, that maybe I just had the wrong idea but I don't think Living Dead was ever meant to be a camp fest. I mean if you remember, Bungie themselves even patched a few of the major spots that people were finding. I think the gametype was really meant for the zombies to just run around and try to survive while killing the humans. Not to have the humans piled up in the camp spots while the zombies struggle to reach them before getting shot.

I stopped playing it because it's a royal PITA to get a Defiant map to come up in the playlist for the "All Alone" achievement!

I haven't seen a fixed map in infection for awhile now, just the original maps.

I liked Halo 3's Zombies more than Halo: Reach's Zombies. They're were maps like Predator and Ice Cream Man where me and my buds played it all day everyday. I miss Halo: 3 when it was populated so much

Me too! Halo 3 had the coolest maps for infection. The best game.

I think reach is pretty good for Infection, because it still seems quite competitive and still feels like halo 3.

Living Dead on Matchmaking is another way for people who suck to get a positive K/D ratio. It is great on Custom Games, but when people use it for nooby tactics, then I get mad.

I played a lot of Living Dead when Reach first came out, but i personally dont like any of these custom maps. Literally just running into things constantly as an alpha zombie. I prefer the old Living Dead

If you do not like living dead, do not play it. Simple solution. Hate to break it to you, but 343 is not going to listen to one's arrogant opinion. There are a large mass of the community that do like living dead. Please keep it to yourself next time.
