A new update for PlayStation 5 consoles has gone live, and as usual, don't expect it do too much for your gaming hardware beyond the usual performance and stability upgrade. "This system software update improves system performance," reads the very brief notes for update 22.02-06.02.00.

The last substantial update for the PS5 was the September patch that added 1440p support and folders, as well as several other handy features for the console. This is the second system patch this month, as an October 5 update also added a few improvements under the hood.

This update is one that modders and homebrewers will naturally want to avoid, as the PS5 jailbreak that went public this month only works with very old firmware. Sony usually views modifications of this type as a gateway towards piracy, and regular firmware upgrades have attempted to keep that problem under control.

The rest of the year is shaping up to be big for Sony, as its next first-party release is God of War: Ragnarok on November 9. Beyond the final chapter in Kratos' Nordic saga, there's also plenty of third-party games coming out on both PS4 and PS5 as the holiday season approaches.

If you're still looking to get one of Sony's newer consoles, you can keep an eye on GameSpot's PS5 restock page to see when the hardware is up for sale near you.
