Halo 4: The SMG (Sub Machine gun)

The SMG... I was expecting it to be one of the first confirmed weapons in Halo 4. I mean It might not even be in Halo 4, as it is unconfirmed. The SMG was, and is my favorite Halo weapon of the whole trilogy. If it isn't in Halo 4, as it wasn't in Halo Reach. That will be a downer for me, and many also for others.

 

A YouTuber named Halo4Follower- (He's legit) -made a video on what was in Game Informer magazine for Halo 4 during April 7th, 2012.

Go to "0:54" on the video's time bar. It has a list of a few returning weapons and some new ones. None of which, the SMG.

I hope 343 will announce it soon if it is in Halo 4. I miss using it.

First, you should really take halo4follower with a grain of salt. If he finds any info anywhere, bam, it's on his videos. Anyway, back to the point, I too hope the SMG makes a return.

i want it back as a secondary so its used more if it was a primary people would use the assault rifle more and not touch the smg.

In the latest Sparkcast, 343 said that the Assault Carbine is very similar to a classic Halo weapon, which was once a big shield drainer. It's not a Plasma Pistol or Covenant Carbine as those were already confirmed. It's either the above MA5K, which is like a miniature Assault Rifle (there's your SMG) or it's some new Plasma Rifle-esque weapon.

im thinking the old weapons that used to be dual weildable will come back as secondary weapons

You don't know that the SMG is the Assault Carbine. You just think that it is. The SMG wasn't the only weapons that was useful as a shield drainer. The Plasma Rifle was good for that, too.

Wait... Covenant Carbine is back, for sure? I cannot wait for Halo 4. SMG was amazingly fun, but it isn't a big deal if it doesn't appear in Halo 4. I am sure it will, though. Look, this is after Halo 3. Halo: Reach was before Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo 2 introduced the SMG, and throughout the STORY LINE, not the games, it has been there.

 

Example:

 

Halo 2 introduced the Covenant Carbine, and it showed in Halo 3, the game directly after Halo 2. It was gone during Halo: Reach, but it didn't show until AFTER Halo: Combat Evolved. So wouldn't it make sense for it to NOT be in Halo: Reach? Exact same thing with the SMG. The SMG was the primary weapon in Halo 2, leaving out the Assault Rifle. I am sure out 1/6 of the games where the primary weapon was the SMG, it would make a return.

I'd really like it back, and think it could be well synergised with the 'Custom Loadouts' idea.

 

At close range, SMG > Assault Rifle, right?

 

At long range, DMR > Battle Rifle, right?

 

The Assault Rifle and Battle Rifle are MUCH better than either the DMR or the SMG as general-purpose weapons, though. So here's my thought: what if, as part of your very first loadouts, you could pick either the Assault Rifle or the Battle Rifle as your primary weapon, but the SMG and the DMR had to be unlocked?

 

So that way everyone gets a general-purpose weapon which remains effective at any range, but can take the risk of specialising and getting a weapon which is much more effective, but only if they use it properly?

I also hope for the return of the SMG, but I want it to be a more powerful weapon. It never really had the capability of killing, only deleting shields. Just boost it's damage a little more and I'll be happy.

Just because it's called the Assault Carbine doesn't mean that it isn't a Covenant weapon.

they have said the assault rifle isgoing to be great for close range so the smg will prob be a secondary.

the SMG was my most favorite weapon in the entire halo series, with the DMR as the runner up. 343 really needs to hurry up and either confirm it or deny its return.

Actually, no. The AR is a close quarters weapon, same as the SMG, but in a close quarters battle, the SMG would win, because the SMG does the same amount of damage the AR does, the SMG shoots faster, has more ammo; enough for 3 kills, but is a lot less accurate. The AR has less ammo; enough for 2 kills, shoots 4 times father that the SMG without as much spread, medium accuracy. From medium range, the AR would win, from close quarters, the SMG would win.

 

The SMG would be better as a primary, its too powerful to be a secondary, plus people have different play styles, some like to play close quarters, some like medium range.
