Final Fantasy XIV 6.3's new trial is called Mount Ordeals. It is a level 90 dungeon that takes place shortly after 6.3's dungeon Lapis Manalis. In Mount Ordeals, Archfiend Rubicante challenges players to a fiery showdown. So far, all of Golbez's main henchmen villains have had an elemental theme, and Rubicante's arsenal of attacks are fire-based. Here's all you need to know about how to unlock and beat the new trial.

How to unlock the FFXIV 6.3 trial, Mount Ordeals

Follow Main Scenario Desires Untold Quest, and you'll find Rubicante waiting for you in Thavnair. You'll also need a minimum average iLVL of 595.

Mount Ordeals Guide

Phase 1

Inferno: Party-wide AoE. Heal and shield.

Ordeal of Purgation (the first time): Rubicante covers the platform in an outer ring of red and an inner ring of purple. Blue rope-like lines are spread out across the arena. Notice that along one of the blue lines, an orange flashing marker appears. Players should move near this specific blue line's ending point on the outer edge of the platform. Players have 10 seconds to position themselves correctly before they're unable to move. Once the 10 seconds are up, the blue triangular AoE connected to the orange-colored line will be raised up and trigger a corresponding cone-shaped AoE. This mechanic will repeat twice, and the activated blue line (indicated by the orange outline) will change the second time.

Arch Inferno: Rubicante begins Arch Inferno's cast with two big circular AoEs on either side of the platform. When you see this, get ready to move. In a clockwise manner, Rubicante will continue to cast multiple overlapping AoEs one after another. In response, players will also have to keep moving in a clockwise manner, following the tail-end of the previously triggered AoE.

  • Rubicante will also cast other AoEs simultaneously, like Conflagration (a red AoE straight through the center of the arena) and Radial Flagration (deep orange radial AoE). Radial Flagration and Conflagration have cast bars--so you'll know when those will go off.

Ordeal of Purgation (the second time): It's the same deal as the first case of Ordeal of Purgatory. Only this time, notice the revolving arrows rotating clockwise or counterclockwise around Rubicante. This means when Ordeal of Purgatory triggers, the purple inner ring rotates one "slice" forward or backward, depending on the arrows' directions. A new blue line path will then be set off by the orange marker. Note that the orange marker does not rotate. It is the inner purple ring that is moved by the arrows.

It may seem confusing at first, but for this mechanic--you can totally still move to the "original" path (pre-rotation), and, ahem, almost ignore the rotating mechanic. As long as you're positioned far out enough on the edge of the platform, and close enough to the new line, you pretty much will not get hit by the triangular AoE. Again, Rubicante will do another round of Order of Purgation, with the arrows usually going in the opposite direction of the first set of arrows.

Adds Phase: Rubicante will jump to the outer edge of the platform, and four Adds will appear. Rubicante is invulnerable at this time, so the party should focus on killing the Adds.

  • Rubicante's Power, enrage meter: Adds must be all killed before the enrage meter fills up.
  • Ghastly Touch: During the Adds phase, Rubicante will also summon multiple AoEs on the platform. This will happen throughout the Adds phase until you kill all Adds. Heal and shield through party-wide damage through Rubicante's Power.

Rubicante does a transformation and the second half of the fight begins

Inferno (the second time): Rubicante puts a circular AoE on each party member. Spread out to avoid overlapping damage.

Flamerake: Rubicante summons a golden compass with a needle spinning very fast. Near the end of the cast bar, the wheel slows down--and a huge central AoE bar will appear in whatever orientation the needle lands on when the cast is done. The tricky part is, right after this central AoE goes off, cascading AoEs will go off on either side of the central one.

Pay attention to the last few seconds of Flamerake and move quickly to either side of the final needle. However, don't go too far: You'll want to stay close to the edge of the first AoE. After the first AoE goes off, move into the center space to avoid the cascading second and third AoEs.

Soulscad: Rubicante attaches an AoE bar to each party member. Spread out to avoid overlapping damage. Soulscad does pretty high damage, so healers should try to heal up any party members damaged during Flamerake before Soulscad goes off.

Dualfire: Both tanks get huge triangular AoEs attached to them. The tanks should spread out and avoid hitting the rest of the party with the AoEs.

Sweeping Immolation: A stack marker is placed on a random party member and simultaneously, half of the platform is covered in an AoE. The party should move to the uncovered half of the platform and stack to share damage.

After this, it's a repeat of the mechanics players have already seen. He'll cycle through Ordeal of Purgation, Inferno, Arch Inferno, Flamerake, Soulscad--and once you reach this point, Rubicante should be pretty close to death.
