Loot boxes, understandably, have quite the negative connotation. So when a recent report mentioned them in association with EA's Skate reboot, developer Full Circle wanted to make it clear the game isn't pay-to-win.

The official Skate account on Twitter put out a reminder about the game, saying it's "not pay-to-win, no map areas locked behind paywall, no paid loot boxes, [and] no paid gameplay advantages." Full Circle has previously discussed how it aims for the game's free-to-play model to be all about cosmetics and convenience.

The Insider Gaming report focused on how Skate will let you earn loot boxes for pulling off sick tricks. But playtesters also apparently shared that real money could be paid for Taps. These could then be traded for Stars, which are utilized for loot boxes in the game.

Costing between two to three Stars, loot boxes reportedly contain items like skateboards, clothing, and house furniture. This would basically support what Full Circle has previously stated about Skate.

There is still no release date for Skate. The free-to-play game is planned to launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with a mobile release also planned for later. For more, check out everything we know about the Skate reboot.
