On the heels of a Nintendo Direct that highlighted The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo of America tweeted a picture of the legendary Master Sword looking rusty and corroded.

The sword's new look was posted with no context nor any accompanying text, leading to much speculation on what caused the Master Sword to look worse-for-wear. There are jokes about the weapon degradation system almost certainly coming back in Tears of the Kingdom--perhaps now possibly including the Master Sword? In Breath of the Wild, the Master Sword was unbreakable. It had infinite durability and a recharge meter.

This isn't the first time we've seen a teaser of a decayed Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom. Before the title was even known, we saw a snippet of Link holding and looking at the chipped Master Sword. Not much else is known about the Master Sword in the game, otherwise.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's standard edition is $70--a departure from the usual $60 price tag of first-party Switch games--and releases on May 12. Nintendo isn't raising all of its games' prices to $70, and the company will consider increased pricing on a "case-by-case" basis.

Nintendo's voucher program does cover Tears of the Kingdom, when mean you can get the game and another title for just $100 in total. To snag a copy, check out our The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom preorder guide.
