Jean Guesdon, creative director of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Origins, has announced that he's leaving Ubisoft after 17 years at the studio.

Guesdon recently shared a post to his LinkedIn profile--via Kotaku--announcing the decision, saying, "Hello everyone, 2023 will start for me with the end of a bit more than 17 formidable years at Ubisoft Montreal. I can't express how much I owe to this unique company.

"So many people met, so many skills learned and so many projects shipped. And Assassin's Creed, of course Assassin's Creed... Thank you Ubi, very very much!!"

Despite the announcement, Gueson didn't share where he would head next. The veteran developer joined Ubisoft in 2005, spending 3 years as a production coordinator on Assassin's Creed. In 2008, he became a game designer for Assassin's Creed 2, later going on to become the head of content for the series, and becoming best known as the creative director of Black Flag and Origins.

Gueson's LinkedIn also details that he worked as a creative director on an "undisclosed project" for PC and consoles.

A Ubisoft spokesperson told Kotaku, "We thank Jean for his strong creative vision, openness, ideas, and most of all, his ability to put himself 'in the shoes' of our players in his contributions to Ubisoft. We wish him well as he moves on to his next chapter."
