Wild Hearts vines are an early-game obstacle that you’ll find guarding the entrance to a few small caves as you move through the game. It's highly likely that you’ll try a few different things to get rid of them, but it doesn’t matter how much you slash, bonk, or shoot at them; they’re not going anywhere.

It’s rare to come across an obstacle you can’t just force your way through in Wild Hearts, but the game does like to make sure you actually utilize the wide range of absurd karakuri you can conjure. That’s what you need to do here, but you need a specific karakuri to get the job done.

How to get rid of Wild Hearts vines

To destroy Wild Hearts vines, you’re going to need to use fire. Unless you’re modding to add Molotov cocktails to your arsenal, you’ll need to get your hands on the torch karakuri in order to gain this ability. The torch is a simple device that you place on the ground, and then upon approaching it your character will attack through the flames to imbue their weapon with flames.

You can then use these flames to destroy the vines. You can also use them to deal a little bit of extra damage to the kemono you’re fighting as well. The simplest way to complete this whole process is by placing the torch right next to the vines you’re looking to get rid of. Just make sure you’ve got enough karakuri thread to do this. Otherwise, you can use your hunter’s vision to grab some from the local area.

Let there be light.

To actually unlock the torch karakuri, you’re going to need to hunt a gigantic boar monster called Kingtusk. You can fight this once you’ve completed your very first hunt, the one to defeat the Ragetail that invades your camp after the tutorial. Just be warned that it’s a tough fight because the Kingtusk has a lot of health and hits incredibly hard. Get through it though, and the ability to start small, but responsible, fires will be at your command.
