Elden Ring, widely considered one of the best games of 2022, has sold more than 20 million copies. Publisher Bandai Namco announced the news on February 22, just three days before the one-year anniversary of its launch. In a press release, FromSoftware thanked fans for playing the game.

"Both Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and FromSoftware, Inc. are very thankful for each and every player stepping into this world," it reads in part. It also notes George R.R. Martin's highly publicized involvement with the creation of the game's lore, as well as the fact that it won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022.

While Game of the Year is usually a hotly contested affair, Elden Ring won so many plaudits in that vein that it could be considered as close to a unanimous choice as you're likely to see. It won GameSpot's Game of the Year 2022, as well as GOTY at the Steam Awards, and at least 400+ other awards from various outlets and readers' choice polls, according to a community-led count in one ResetEra thread. The only game from 2022 that came even remotely close was God of War Ragnarok, with 98 such awards.

Elden Ring remains one of the best-selling games of the current moment, placing 6th on a list of games sold in the US in January. Though there's still no word on when DLC for the game might come out, dataminers believe that it will add at least one legacy dungeon to the game, and it will likely involve the enigmatic god Miquella in some fashion.
