Halo 4: Your thoughts on the changes & additions.

I created this tread simply to see what everybodys take is, and how you are handling the changes and additions. Me, personally, have supported every decision they have made. They have executed perfect gameplay, balancing the competitive side with the "fun" factor. They have made additions to things like weapons, such as the rail gun, which sounds like a fantastic weapon.

 

 

They have compramised a ranking system to fit all audiences, containing, (as far as we know), a both 1-50 and halo reach system, with the beloved method of EXP. This, so far, is making for a fantastic game. Keep it up, 343!

Hmmm where to begin...

 

Things I like

Multiplayer models are sweet

No elites in matchmaking

No armor lock

BR and DMR are back and have different roles

Return of the carbine

New enemies to face in the campaign

Maps are being made with competitive gameplay in mind

Faster base movement speed

Loadouts are returning

 

Things I'm unsure about

Promethean/Forerunner Vision

Ranking system (need concrete proof there is a skill based ranking system)

Railgun (as long as it's not a one hit kill anywhere on the body and/or a shortish range then it'll be fine)

Having to unlock things for loadouts

Armor actually affecting gameplay in some way

Instant respawn in slayer

Scoring system (is it really just increments of 10 now or has every clip we've seen just so happen to increase the score by 10 so far?)

"Random" weapon drops

Apparently no weapons on maps

 

There is probably more but I can't think of any right now. I'm excited either way though strictly because they're making it with a competitive mindset.

The things you like are all good, other than perhaps the elites. I personally don't care one way or the other about them.

 

As for your unsure of items, let me touch upon a few of those.

  • The Forerunner Vision thing is still an unknown. We've heard it has a fairly short range, and an audible cue to others around you that you are using it. I'm still waiting to see it in gameplay.
  • Ranking system I agree with completely, need something more concrete letting us know, preferably a 1-50 system or something similar.
  • Railgun, well, this is a new weapon that we know very little about. I'll have to wait and see how it works, but if it is a 1 hit kill weapon, then perhaps they need to make it have an extremely small clip (1 shot, maybe 2 at most). My guess is it is going to be long range, though.
  • Unlocking things for loadouts is a plus and a minus. It's been stated that the default loadouts are going to be dependant upon map, so you won't spawn with an assault rifle on a map like Blood Gultch unless that's what you choose to do.
  • Armor affecting game play doesn't sit well with me. Even minor enhancements will affect gameplay, and I don't know if it will be a good thing or not.
  • Instant respawns are for specific game types. Dunno if it's going to be all slayer games, or just specific variants of slayer matches.
  • Scoring system, if it's just increments of 10, I'm fine with. What I'm not fine with is if it's random increments, based on how you kill somebody.
  • "Random" weapon drops, my understanding is that at the start of a match, weapons are placed as normal. The shotgun for example, is always going to be in Place A at the beginning of any game on that map. After it's picked up, a random power weapon will drop in its place, so instead of a shotgun again, you may get a rocket launcher or sniper, etc.
  • Apparently no weapons on map - I find this one hard to believe. Where did this come from? I don't remember reading or hearing about it. The only thing I remember is the random weapon drops from above.

But all in all, good post!

 

So far, I'm liking the direction Halo 4 seems to be going. There are a few items I want clarification on, see above for those. I like having the BR and the DMR, each serving a different purpose. I like the design of the spartans, though not too sure on the helmet just yet. The maps looked good, from what we've seen. I like the inclusion of AA's, and I like the ones they went with, I just hope they find a good way of balancing them all against one another. They claim they are, so we'll see. Generally speaking though, I'm happy. Can't wait for Nov. 6th!

I'm not gonna leave a long post about what they should or shouldn't have, but I will say this. I do like a lot of the changes and addition that they are making to Halo 4, but at the same time there are a few that make me so mad that they are equal to all of the good changes.

I could have sworn I read it from the information people got when that group got to play in NYC last week. Maybe it was killa kc's? I can't remember but the person didn't notice any weapons just laying around to be picked up. Could have also been set up that way and 343 was only showing weapons they were happy with so far.
