The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is scoring fantastic reviews, but there is one element of the game that this reporter finds to be a huge bummer: You cannot pet the dog.

The Can You Pet the Dog? Twitter account brings us this very sad news, and GameSpot can independently confirm that this is indeed the case. The adorable dog in Tears of the Kingdom rolls around on its back and it sure would be nice to give it some pets, but alas, it was not meant to be. This is standard stuff for recent Zelda games, as Breath of the Wild also denied players the opportunity to pet dogs.

Dogs in Tears of the Kingdom can be found near stables throughout Hyrule. You can stand near them to trigger the animation above. Feeding the dogs will make them happy and in turn they will direct you to buried treasure, according to IGN. But you cannot pay the dog back with some nice pets.

That's too bad, but Tears of the Kingdom is filled with plenty of other activities. Be sure to check out GameSpot's Tears of the Kingdom guides hub to learn more.

Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel to Breath of the Wild that fans have been waiting years to play. It's finally out now on Switch, and GameSpot's Tears of the Kingdom review scored it a 10/10, marking just our 24th 10/10 in site history.

"Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a canvas for your own creativity, a book to write your own stories, a world to create your own legends. It gives you back as much as you put into it, and beckons you to soar, burrow, engineer, solve, adventure, and explore," reviewer Steve Watts said in GameSpot's Tears of the Kingdom review.
