343iBot
There are currently no plans for Final Fantasy XVI to receive DLC or spin-offs further fleshing out its world, according to game director Hiroshi Takai. As part of Game Informer's FFXVI cover story, Takai and producer Naoki Yoshida made clear that the game's development team, Square Enix's Creative Business Unit III, is taking a wait and see approach when it comes to expanding on FFXVI's story and world."We have no idea if people are going to fall in love with Valisthea and fall in love with Clive's story and want to see more of the world and more of its characters," Yoshida said. "So while we always want to consider DLC or spinoffs or those types of things where you can learn more about the game, first we want to see if Valisthea and Clive are really things players around the world want to see more of and then make that decision."Yoshida told the magazine that FFXVI is a full experience without the need for DLC, and that the team wants players to be satisfied with what they paid for. That's a far cry from the previous main entry in the series, Final Fantasy XV, which received multiple DLC expansions and even a CGI prequel film, FFXV Kingsglaive. The recent Final Fantasy VII Remake also received DLC in the form of the Yuffie-centric expansion FF7R Episode InterMission. In a recent interview, Yoshida said that FFXVI's primary focus is its story, a response to fan criticisms of FFXV's story feeling incomplete at launch and later requiring additional cutscenes and DLC content in order to tell a more complete narrative."I'm just waiting to see how fans react to the story, because that's what we've put so much effort into," Yoshida said.A hands-on preview with FFXVI's opening hours proves the game's story will be a brutal affair and quite unlike anything seen in the series before, having taken major inspiration from Game of Thrones. FFXVI releases exclusively for PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023.View the full article
