343iBot
Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher developer CD Projekt has dismissed claims that it'll be acquired by Sony. Responding to rumors that Destiny leaker Liz had shared online, CD Projekt president and CEO Adam Kiciński shot them down."Nothing has changed in our end," Kiciński said in an earnings call after the publication of CDPR's Q1 2023 earnings (via VGC). "So, I can repeat what we have been saying throughout the years--CD Projekt is not for sale. We want to remain independent. We have, I believe an excellent strategy. Not easy to execute, for sure, but it's very exciting to follow our own path. So it's a pure rumor."Sony recently added a new member to its PlayStation family in the form of Firesprite Studios, and recently, Destiny studio Bungie, Returnal developer Housemarque, and PC port specialist Nixxes Software were all brought into the fold.As for CDPR, it has numerous projects in development. Phantom Liberty, Cyberpunk 2077's upcoming expansion, will make an appearance at Summer Game Fest, development on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel has begun, and Witcher game Project Sirius now has a "new framework" as work on it continues. A new trilogy of mainline Witcher games are also in development and a third-party studio is working on a Witcher game codenamed Canis Majoris. In other Witcher news, CDPR has announced that The Witcher 3 has sold more than 50 million copies, making it the ninth highest-selling game of all time. That achievement has pushed the original Pokemon Red and Blue games into tenth place, although The Witcher 3 would need to sell more than three million more units to dethrone Red Dead Redemption 2 from its eighth-place spot in the rankings.View the full article
