During the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, Ubisoft announced that its upcoming Assassin's Creed VR game, Assassin's Creed Nexus, will be coming to the Meta Quest 3 and 2 this year. Beyond that, Ubisoft says that fans will have to wait until the Ubisoft Forward event on June 12 to get more details on the game and how it'll use virtual reality to deliver a more immersive entry in the series.

Assassin's Creed Nexus was first announced at the 2020 Oculus Quest 2 event, alongside a Splinter Cell VR game. At the time, Ubisoft VP of product development Elizabeth Loverso announced that both games were being "built from the ground up" for virtual reality and would include "elements of the franchises" that players are familiar with. Sadly, the Splinter Cell VR game was later canceled.

Ubisoft subsidiary Red Storm, a studio with credits on many Tom Clancy games as well as VR games Star Trek: Bridge Crew and Werewolves Within, is developing Assassin's Creed Nexus. Ubisoft Reflections, Ubisoft Dusseldorf, and Ubisoft Mumbai are also collaborating with Red Storm on the upcoming VR game.

In other Assassin's Creed news, Assassin's Creed Mirage now has a confirmed release date of October 12. This will be a more traditional Assassin's Creed game for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, and focuses on Basim Ibn Ishaq, the untrustworthy reincarnation of Loki from Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Sticking to the roots of the series, Assassin's Creed Mirage is a stealth-focused experience and complements Basim's arsenal of lethal weaponry with improved parkour that he can utilize inside the city of Baghdad.

The new PlayStation Showcase trailer also teased the return of black box assassination missions: challenging assassination missions that didn't have much of an appearance in Valhalla but were a major part of older games like Assassin's Creed Syndicate.
