EA and developer Ascendant Studios have officially announced that Immortals of Aveum has been delayed from its planned July 20 release date to August 22. In an update on the studio website, game director Bret Robbins said that the month-long delay will be used to help fine-tune the game and further optimize it for its launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

"The recent feedback to the game proves to us what we already felt: that Immortals of Aveum is something special. In order to realize our full vision, we are going to take a few extra weeks, making our new launch date Tuesday, August 22nd," the studio explained. "This will give us time to further polish the game, finish optimizing all platforms, and deliver a strong launch. We owe it to ourselves and to you to get this right."

Set in a fantasy world where battlemages can wield devastating magical power in combat, Immortals of Aveum follows the protagonist Jak--but not that Jak--as he joins an order of powerful magic-users known as the Immortals. Tasked with facing the tyrant of Rasharn, Sandrak, Jak has to use his mystical powers to stop the despot before he disrupts the flow of magic to that world.

Immortals of Aveum has an old-school approach to its content, as it won't require an online connections, has no microtransactions, and the campaign is estimated to take around 25 hours to complete. For completionists, there'll be optional paths and hidden secrets to uncover as well. In action, the game looks like Doom Eternal but with fireballs instead of shotguns, as you'll have to weave between various elements to weaken enemies and finish them off with some powerful arcane artillery.

So far, July is a bit of a dry month when compared to the first six months of the year. June's high profile releases include Final Fantasy XVI, Diablo IV, and Street Fighter 6, and in comparison, July's biggest games are Oxenfree II, Pikmin 4, and a PC port of the PS5 game Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
