AMD and Bethesda have announced that they'll be exclusive partners for Starfield on PC. The goal of the partnership, they say, is to unlock the full potential of Starfield.

The two have worked together to optimize Starfield on Xbox and PC with Ryzen 7000 Series processors and Radeon 7000 Series graphics. Producer Todd Howard mentions that AMD engineers have been working with Bethesda on Starfield's codebase to deliver SSR2 image processing and upscaling.

"These optimizations will both accelerate performance and enhance the quality of your gameplay using highly multithreaded code, that both Xbox and PC players will get to take advantage of," explains AMD SVP Jack Huynh in a video announcement.

In light of this exclusive partnership, some players are worried that they are missing out on technology from Nvidia such as the company's ray-tracing system.

Starfield launches on September 6 on Xbox Series X|S and PC. According to filings from the current FTC vs. Microsoft trial, Starfield could've been a PlayStation exclusive had it not been for Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax. However, the game is now an Xbox console exclusive, and Bethesda said that it's a good thing because it's one fewer console to worry about and optimize for.
