Bandai Namco released a new gameplay trailer for Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, the latest installment of the mech series developed by From Software. This sneak peek showcases what it's like playing as a mech pilot, blasting missiles at enemies and flying through an apocalyptic sci-fi setting with rocket-powered jets.

As explained in an earlier blog, Armored Core 6 takes place on a planet called Rubicon 3, the home of a powerful energy source called "Coral." Coral could be the solution that humanity needs to power their technological means to survive. However, it's also dangerous enough that it burned Rubicon to ash years prior to the start of the story.

That disaster wasn't enough of a reason to dissuade certain parties from warring over the substance. You play as Raven, a mercenary pilot who takes jobs from various clients like mega-corps and resistance groups. It's unclear what extent Raven will be involved in the extraterrestrial politics, but the trailer makes it clear that you will be slicing at tank-like machines and other hostile mechs to get Raven's payout.

Armored Core 6 is the sixth mainline game of the Armored Core series, and the last Armored Core game since Verdict Day was released in 2013. Its return after a decade-long hiatus comes with new and improved visuals but the same, responsive combat that FromSoftware is known for. Preorders are now available ahead of the summer release date.

Armored Core 6 will launch on August 25, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
