It sounds like Larian's upcoming RPG Baldur's Gate 3 will take you a long time to finish. Larian boss Swen Vincke told IGN that a standard playthrough of the title should take between 75 and 100 hours, though as usual, your mileage will vary and there is no official "runtime" for the game.

"Between 75 and 100 hours, that's what we're seeing," Vincke said. "That's not doing everything, that is just going to be a playthrough. There will be people who will be way over that, the ones who want to do everything. They will probably hit 200 hours, I think. On average we're seeing people who are going through take about 75 to 100 hours."

Vincke went on to say that he believes Baldur's Gate 3 offers a good amount of replayability because it has so many classes and races to try out. Not only that, but the game's multiplayer support might help extend the time people spend playing it.

"This is not a small game you're going to be done with in a month. You will be playing it in bits and chunks. Maybe you will drop in with a friend in multiplayer - we have drop-in / drop-out multiplayer also. There are so many ways of playing it," he said.

Before this, Larian alluded to Baldur's Gate 3 being an absolutely massive game. In a recent blog post, the studio said the title has more "cinematic dialogue" than "three times all three Lord of the Rings novels combined." The game's 174 hours of cinematics is more than twice the length of every season of Game of Thrones combined.

"All that content serves to give you a tremendous amount of choice and consequence, ensuring everyone's adventure will be unique," Larian said.

Baldur's Gate 3 releases on August 3 for PC, and part of the reason the date was brought forward from August 31 was to avoid a clash with Starfield. The PS5 edition of Baldur's Gate 3, meanwhile, is set for release on September 6, the day Starfield releases. There is no PS5 edition of Starfield, however. An Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 could still happen, but not until Larian is satisfied with how the game performs across both Xbox Series X and S.
