Larry Hryb, better known as Major Nelson online, is leaving Microsoft after 22 years. Hryb, who was Microsoft's Senior Director of Corporate Communications, made the announcement today on Twitter, stating that he has decided to "take a step back and work on the next chapter" of his career. It's unclear what Hryb's next moves are.

Hryb had been with Microsoft since 2001 before moving to the Xbox division in 2003. He's been with Xbox ever since and has been one of the biggest faces of the brand. He's known for the development and promotion of Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Live, and has advised many companies on utilizing social media to connect with communities.

"Thanks to Xbox team members for trusting me to have a direct dialogue with our customers," Hryb said on Twitter. "The future is bright for Xbox and as a gamer, I am excited to see the evolution."

Hryb was also known for hosting the Official Xbox Podcast (previously known as Major Nelson Radio), which began in 2004. In light of his departure from the company, Hryb states that the Official Xbox Podcast will take a hiatus but will return "in a new format."

It's clear Hryb has made an impact, not just on the Xbox brand, but on the community, and his colleagues. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer took to Twitter to comment on Hryb's departure. "Larry, it has been awesome to work alongside you on this journey," Spencer said. "Thank you for being a friend, and for everything you’ve done for our Xbox community and team."

Even the official PlayStation Twitter account replied to Hryb's announcement, offering a green heart and a salute emoji to show respect.
