If you’re looking for some old-school Sonic action, it’s hard to beat Sonic Origins Plus. The recently released collection pulls together 16 classic Sonic games and gives a handful of them HD makeovers. It's already budget-friendly at its $40 retail price, but right now you can score Sonic Origins Plus for just $30 on Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

The deal is available at both Best Buy and Amazon. As always, Prime members are eligible for free two-day shipping, while select Best Buy locations are eligible for same-day pickup.

Sonic Origins Plus gives four games an HD remaster--Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. Not only do each of the four titles have new opening and ending animations, but you can also play in Anniversary Mode (which gives you unlimited lives in widescreen HD), enjoy previously released add-on content like Extreme Missions and Mirror Mode, and you can also play as Amy Rose, along with Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles.

The collection even includes 12 classic Game Gear titles like Sonic Drift 2, Sonic Spinball, Tails Adventure, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. All told, that’s 16 Sonic games for $30, which should be more than enough to keep you busy until Sonic Superstars arrives later this year. Here's the full list of games:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog CD
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (16-bit)
  • Sonic 3 & Knuckles
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit)
  • Sonic and Tails
  • Sonic and Tails 2
  • Sonic Drift
  • Sonic Drift 2
  • Sonic Spinball (8-bit)
  • Sonic Blast
  • Sonic Labyrinth
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Tails' Sky Patrol
  • Tails Adventure

Sonic Origins Plus is an expanded version of Sonic Origins. Our review of Sonic Origins found it to be a solid game that does a great job updating iconic Sonic adventures, and that holds true for the enhanced Sonic Origins Plus.

“The games remain excellent, and the painstaking dedication to recreating the complex levels and gimmick interactions of the various Sonic titles is wonderful to behold,” wrote critic Heidi Kemps. “It warms this aged Sonic fan's heart to see the faux-rotation of Special Stages and assorted stage objects made much more smooth, to see Super Sonic get new design-accurate animation frames instead of reusing a bunch of those belonging to regular Sonic, and to finally have a dedicated Super button in Sonic 3 and Knuckles so I can transform only when I really want to.
