The long-awaited Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest kicked off July 28 in Las Vegas, and during the event Square Enix unveiled the game's upcoming expansion, Dawntrail, in a new trailer. You can check it out below.

Dawntrail will be the fifth major expansion for Final Fantasy XIV and is set to be released in the summer of 2024. The expansion's storyline will treat players to a much-needed beach vacation, as the game's main characters explore the tropical island of Eorzea's New World. Director Naoki Yoshida, known as Yoshi-P, shared his unwavering dedication to the game during the keynote presentation, stating, "I wanted to continue to work on the game until I die or even afterward."

The adventure will take place in Tural, a distant land located to the west of Eorzea. Players will be involved in a rite of succession, competing for the opportunity to determine Tural's next ruler. However, this contest may introduce divisions among the Scions, adding a twist to the story.

Dawntrail also introduces a new hub city, Tuliyollal, situated in the diverse region of Yok Tural. Players can look forward to encountering new allied tribes like the Pelupelu and enjoy various additions, such as a level cap increase, new jobs, dungeons, enemies, gear, recipes, and lifestyle content. In a significant update, the 7.0 patch will bring improved graphics to the game, enhancing the visuals of environments and characters.

Square Enix also announced an expansion of the free trial version to include all content from Heavensward to the start of Shadowbringers, allowing more players to experience the game's vast world.

In a surprise finale, Phil Spencer, Xbox's head, joined Yoshi-P on stage to announce that Final Fantasy XIV would finally be making its way to Xbox consoles. A Fall Guys crossover is also on the way.

The Dawntrail expansion is scheduled for a Summer 2024 release and will be available on PS4, PS5, and PC.
