343iBot
In anticipation of Overwatch 2's upcoming story missions, Blizzard has released a lengthy cinematic revealing what Sojourn has been up to since the Overwatch team disbanded, what her motivation for leaving the team was, and how she once again becomes involved in their heroic escapades. The short ends with a look at the events leading up to Overwatch 2's next season, Invasion. The cinematic opens with a brief look at Sojourn's morning routine, which features her bringing back a frothy cup of coffee to her city home where her corgi Murphy eagerly awaits her return. However, Sojourn's peaceful morning is interrupted when Agent Trombley, a member of Canadian law enforcement, pays her a visit.Trombley begins to question Sojourn's whereabouts last night, as he knows other agents of Overwatch have been engaging in some good old fashioned vigilante justice. Sojourn quickly denies being involved with Overwatch, stating that while she received Winston's call to arms, she never acted on it. Trombley then reveals during an operation last night, he and his team were ambushed by omnics, and only survived thanks to a mysterious protector who intervened.Though Sojourn denies any involvement, Trombley reveals he found a bullet at the scene that matches the ones her railgun uses and Sojourn drops the act. After a short conversation in which the former hero emphasizes she will never stop doing the right thing and how she left the Overwatch team because they lost sight of their mission of uplifting the world and its people, she tells Trombley to simply do what he thinks is right. Trombley then pulls out a pair of handcuffs to arrest Sojourn under charges of vigilantism, but is noticeably conflicted.Fortunately (well, kind of), Trombley doesn't have to make the call, as explosions from just outside Sojourn's home reveal the Omnic Insurgency has reached Toronto. Sojourn quickly activates a sort of home defense protocol, transforming her living room into an operations base. While Trombley watches on in bewilderment, Sojourn begins to contact her network of agents in Toronto. Trombley then puts the handcuffs away and asks Sojourn what her orders are, noting that she is the city's "best hope."The events in the cinematic seemingly kick off Overwatch 2's forthcoming season, Invasion, in which various PvE missions will take players through putting an end to an omnic invasion. Not much is known about what these story missions will entail--or what some strange, John Cena related glitches have to do with it--but more information regarding both things seems to be just around the corner. Overwatch 2 Invasion kicks off on August 10.In other Overwatch 2 related news, Blizzard has confirmed the game is coming to Steam. Starting August 10, Steam users can download and play the game through Valve's client, with all progress carrying over. Players should note, however, a Battlenet account is still required in order to play Overwatch 2.View the full article
