SatanicBagels
6 years ago on the first of June Half Life: Episode 1 was released for the gaming world do devour in one single energy drink fueled play-through. As time went on it seemed all but certain that Gabe Newell would announce Half Life: Episode 3 at E3 and continue its incredible single-player legacy in yet another installment of our favorite crowbar totting MIT graduate. Yet after 6 long years it no longer seems probable that we will be getting a third episode of the Half Life 2 installment... So three years in it seemed evident that they were not in production for Half Life: Episode 3, but that they were indeed in production of Half Life 3 (HL3). Many things point towards this. Before I explain my reasoning it is very important to understand that based on past experience and pure speculation, Gabe Newell's statement that HL3 would not be announced at E3 doesn't really mean so much. What past experience might you ask... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Investing in the Cell, investing in the SPE gives you no long-term benefits. There's nothing there that you're going to apply to anything else. You're not going to gain anything except a hatred of the architecture they've created" October, 11th, 2007 E3 2010 --- Gabe Newell marches right up onto the stage and announces steamworks integration for the PS3 as well as Portal 2's best version coming to PS3. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So on this six year anniversary of Half Life: Episode 1 it would certainly be possible to recieve an announcement. One might conclude that 6 whole years of hype being built up would result in the most earth-shattering news ever to be broken to the gaming world. Earlier this year the Gameinformer staff did what they call a super replay of the original Half Life. This is where the entire writing staff gets together and plays through a game while commentating on it at the same time. The archive of videos for this specific super replay can be found here. In Episode 3 during the beginning 5 minutes of the video the staff talks about a secretive cover story... though they refuse to acknowledge what exactly the game was because they're not sure when the super replay will be posted (May 24, 2012). Another member says that this replay of the original game came at an opportune time. Of course the senior editor immediately made them shut up and dismissed the whole thing as trolling (exactly what you would do if there wasn't any trolling going on). Trolling or legitimate acknowledgment, you decide. Being the speculative Half Life fanatic that I am I reached a slightly altered conclusion. Due to Valves past release of the Orange Box being a super good value... and with the release of Halo CE: Anniversary earlier this year... I reached the possible conclusion that HL3 might be announced in addition to a remastered version of Half Life with improved graphics and slight errors fixed. In addition to all me reasoning and speculation somebody else has managed to put together a wealth of information (some serious, some funny) on why they think HL3 will be announced at E3 this year. That article is found below. http://www.gamesradar.com/7-reasons-half-life-3-will-definitely-be-e3-2012/
