Diablo IV's second season will see players battling against bloodthirsty foes by embracing vampiric powers themselves.

Called Season of Blood and revealed as part of Gamescom Opening Night Live's slew of announcements, Diablo IV Season 2 will introduce a new vampire-themed seasonal questline, five new endgame bosses, and multiple new vampiric powers for players to experiment with in their builds. How many new powers will be coming, and whether the powers will be class-specific or universal across the game's five classes, is currently unknown.

Season 2 will see players team up with the vampire hunter Erys, voiced by actress Gemma Chan in her first video game role, as she joins players in the hunt to defeat a powerful vampire lord. Season 2 will kick off October 17, and like Season 1, will introduce a new seasonal battle pass.

In a tweet, Blizzard outlined additional details about Season 2, like how it will introduce new ways to target-farm for uniques and "uber" uniques, as well as the fact that all renown rewards will carry over from previous seasons or the game's non-seasonal realm starting with Season of Blood. That means once a player has unlocked all the renown rewards on one character, all future characters will automatically have access, eliminating the need to grind out the various regional renown rewards every season.

Additional changes Blizzard had previously outlined were in the works have now been confirmed to be coming in Season 2 as well. Come Season of Blood, gems will no longer take up inventory space, a filter and search option will be introduced for stashes, and updates to various game systems like Resistances, Vulnerable damage, and Overpower damage will arrive. Blizzard said it has only shared a "slice" of what's coming in Season 2, so though it wasn't explicitly mentioned, players can likely also expect new unique items and balance changes to coincide with Season of Blood's release.

It's not the first time the Diablo franchise has flirted with blood-drinking vampires. Diablo Immortal, Blizzard's free-to-play mobile game entry, introduced the franchise's first new class in nearly a decade earlier this summer in the form of the Blood Knight, a class completely built around the idea of embracing vampiric power.
