The next Lord of the Rings game will be here soon. Free Range Games has announced that the co-op survival crafting game The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria will release on October 24. That's a busy month for video games, as October also sees the release of Detective Pikachu Returns, Forza Motorsport, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Spider-Man 2, Ghostrunner II, Alan Wake II, and more.

Return to Moria releases digitally on October 24 for PC, exclusively through the Epic Games Store, and PlayStation 5. The Xbox Series X|S edition will be released in early 2024. A physical version for PS5 launches on December 5. Free Range did not say why the Xbox edition is coming later.

Return to Moria is set in the Fourth Age of Middle-earth and tells the story of a group of Dwarves who are trying to reclaim their home in Moria. "Their quest will require fortitude and teamwork, delving deep into the Mines of Moria to recover its treasures and in the hopes of one day restoring them to their former glory," reads a line from the announcement.

Return to Moria is the second big Lord of the Rings game released this year, following the launch of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum in May. That game was poorly received, and its developer is no longer making games at all. Other upcoming Lord of the Rings games in the works include a new title from Weta and a Lord of the Rings MMO from Amazon.

There are also new Lord of the Rings movies in the works, but it's early days.
